Advice on computer build

I have built a couple AMD systems a long time ago (4-6 yrs ago which I ended up selling, but I still don't know jack about computers) and now am planning to build an Intel computer this time. I can't wait any longer for the newer processors or video cards to come out because I think my laptop is going to crap out on me at any second. I have never overclocked before but would like to do some mild overclocking with this build (i.e. Q6600 to 3ghz). I plan to use the computer for everything, office, gaming, movies, etc. I am also planning to use Vista 64 ultimate with the build as well.

Here is what I have left to buy so far:

CPU: Q6600 (I usually have a ton of apps running so it might be faster than the E8400?)
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35 DS4 rev. 2.1 (Don't know the difference between 2.0 or 2.1)
HDD: Seagate 500gb 32mb cache SATA drive (and possibly 2 more IDE hard drives)
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTS (G92) or Gigabyte 8800GTS (G92) (not sure which one)
Fans: Up to 7 Scythe Slipstream 1900RPM
Fan Controller: Sunbeam Chromatic Windmill
Monitor: Samsung 245bw 24in (It's a TN but I think it would be ok)
Card Reader: Irocks 12 in 1 with USB hub
Power Supply: Corsair 620 vs Corsair 750 (not sure which one)

Here is what I have/ordered so far:

Case: Cooler Master RC 690
Floppy drive: that was just sitting in a box
Optical Drive: Samsung 203N
Heat Sink: Tuniq Tower with Tuniq TX-2
Memory: G.skill 8gb (2-4gb kits) (it was cheap, and might as well buy now)

So what do you think of this so far, and any advice?

620W PSU is already way more than you need. Get the 520HX. It's modular too.
Consider if you really need the Q6600. "I do a lot of multitasking" is not a good enough reason to buy quad-core; CPUs have been running more than one program at once for years. Office apps and movies and browsing don't all hit the CPU 100% of the time so they don't need their own dedicated core. Games won't use all of the Q6600 either.
The EVGA card is probably a better choice because of their step-up program.

I'd also rather get a e8400, someone here said, if you don't know why you need a q6600, then you don't need one. Saves you money too, and a e8400 will be faster 90% of the time as well. Why the gigabyte ds4 ? Why not a ds3r for 130$ or a ds3l for 90$? I'd get this videocard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814130325 .

I would also buy this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...E16817139004&Tpk=550vx it's lots cheaper and still has all the power you need. If you want modular, 520hx is the way to go. But for single cpu and single videocard rigs, 500w is more then you'll ever need. Why 7 casefans btw ? It's overkill and will only turn your CM 690 into a leafblowing dustsucker. In general, you've got a pretty solid build going, but you could save a little more here and there. 8gb of ram is overkill too, I doubt you'll ever adress more then 4gb, but yeah, it's cheap, so what the hell huh ?

Thanks for the quick replies.

As for the PSU, I did one of those power calculator things which I put 100% load and maybe a little extra here and there. I was originally thinking the 620W as well, but the calculator made me think that I might not have enough because I was right around 620-640. So I began thinking about getting a larger PSU to stay on the "safe side." So I wouldn't have to worry about going to the limit with the 620W right?

As for the CPU I use audacity and itunes to reduce my mp3s 128kbps and was thinking the q6600 might help that be faster. Would it?

That EVGA video card was the one I was thinking about getting

The motherboard.......dunno, I guess i just picked the highest number (4 > 3). And I believe the e8400 will now work without problems on the motherboards correct?

The 7 fans is just "leaving to door" open to it, and not sure, I've been reading through alotta posts on that

The 8gb of ram, it was cheap and I don't plan on upgrading at least for the next few yrs so might as well

good choice on the Q6600. and pretty much everything else

u can pretty much go for any gigabyte p35 board and can't go wrong. the Abit ip-35 is great too

7 case fans is OD.. u really only need a max of 4 x 120mm case fans + individual component cooling (gpu heatsink, cpu heatsink)
8gb is cheap, but useless for what you're going to do. stick with 4gb

The Q6600 and E8400 performance difference is very marginal. Unless you're running some hardcore video/photo editing, Folding@Home, or any intensive app, and E8400 would be a better choice. $225 (or as low as $189) vs $265 (maybe $255). I'd use the $40 bucks or so for a tank of gas :).

Depends how picky you are.
Most everyone here that uses onboard sound on Gigabyte mobo say they're superb, but it still won't match up to an aftermarket sound card if you're an audiophile
