hi, i'm moving to scotland this fall for a year to get my masters degree and i won't be able to bring my desktop computer wtih me... so i'm going to sell my computer and buy a lap top instead....

i was going through some "junk mail" ads that we get at work and came across this... i need an opinion on how good of a deal it is..
it's an IBM think pad, but it's used... it's been leased out to a company, and then when the lease is up returned to IBM - the ad says they are fully functional, 100% operational, any problems that there might have been were fixed and they have a 90 day warranty on them...

so i just need a cheap one... mainly so i can type papers in my room and get online and keep in touch with my family & friends - i won't be playing many computer games or anything like that.

so here is the 2 i'm considering..

option 1: for $500 - pentium 2, 300 processor, 64 meg ram, 5 gig hard drive, 56K modem, 24x cd, 13.3 inch display, windows 95

option 2: for $580 - exactly the same as option 1 but it has a 366 processor, 6.4 gig hard drive, and win 98

so what do you think? good deals?? is the extra 1.4 gig hard drive worth $80? i don't really care if it's win 95 or 98.

anyone ever buy a used lap top? a 90 day warranty seems safe enough - is buying off lease a good way to go?

i did some checking online and i found this one too - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000063KEX/ref=pc_hp_cs_9_4/103-8105634-2003814 which is a better deal...

oh yeah... i need to know if IBM think pads have a dual power supply so it will run on british electricity? anyone know that... that's my #1 priority!

anyone have any good or bad experiences with think pads?

what about the price? is that good? can i do better?

i think the speed is fine for what i need it for...

any and all advice welcome!
