I live in UK , Buying Motherboard, CPU, CPU Watercooler Closed Loop , PSU, have around £400-£450 Budget . I'm looking to spend about £250 on Motherboard + CPU .

My question is regarding the FM2 Chips with onboard GPU's . The system will mainly be used as a media platform TV, Movies .

I picked out 2 choices of motherboard + CPU , one AM3+ the other FM2 .

AM3+ System :-
AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz -AM3+ - Retail @ £110.99
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 AMD 990FX AM3+ @ £139.99

FM2 System :-
AMD A10 6800K Quad Core 4.1GHz - Black Edition - Radeon HD 8670D 844MHz @ £106.42
Gigabyte G1.Sniper A88X AMD A88X Chipset - FM2+ DDR3 ATX Motherboard @ £83.99

I Like the FM2 because theres no GFX Card needed, but i keep reading the FM2 socket is at the end of the road, and AM3+ is more powerfull and more choices for future upgrades .

P.S. I've been out of the PC & overclocking world for over 4 years now [ Had Children ] so ive been left behind and am not that up to date on the latest and greatest :(

I dont see either one as having great choices for future upgrades. But the fate of either is not 100% certain. But I would go with FM2+ since it is at least upgradeable to an A10-7XXX. You might not be able to upgrade a FX-8320 to anything besides an 8350, which would be a travesty.

Upgrading CPUs across generations while keeping the same socket is pretty much dead. Even when you can, the generation to generation gains are much smaller than they used to be, so it is hardly worthwhile.

For a media box, I would get the APU hands down. A media box should run cool and quiet IMHO, you don't need a high TDP CPU plus a dedicated GPU.
