Advice on auto part for performance? Anyone?

I search around different performance webpages, i find all kinds of engne mods, air intake etc...

But i am wondering about this auto part: Tornado Air

It is cheap enough for me so i was wondering if it really works?

Anyone used this before or have any feedbacks? Thnks.

if it worked, auto companies would be using it, yes? Of course, maybe the billions they sepnt on engineers just couldnt think of it.

I can see how it might help a carbureted engine since it sits right on the carburetor, but I don't see it helping a newer car much since it would be so far away from where the air and fuel mix.
One of the tests on the commercial claimed it made 8 hp at 80 mph. Big deal. What good does that do?

I'm not going to say it's a total waste. You're just going to have to try it and see. You definitely won't feel any power increase, if that's what you're looking for. You can't feel 8 horsepower.

"Put a Tornado under your hood!" exhorts the manufacturer of a $70 device that claims to improve your vehicle's power and mileage. The Tornado, a stainless-steel disc with stationary blades, fits inside the air-filter housing or air-intake hose. "Its air-flow dynamics create a swirling, fast-burn effect" and allows for more complete combustion, the ads say.

We tested the Tornado on a 1998 Volkswagen New Beetle and a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup. In our acceleration tests, the Ranger showed no improvement and the Beetle showed slightly worse performance with the Tornado. Fuel economy didn't improve in either vehicle.

Sounds like you have more money than sense.
If this could boost the performance of an automobile why isn't it standard on them?

The same reason why new cars still have those cheap plastic boxes with filters in them!


But if you guys think 8hp is nothing, it plays a big role after you do some mods on your car, the 8hp will add to the total together wih you other mods, right or wrong?

For eg: You change your stock air intake to a AEM aluminium Air Intake and flowmaster exhaust parts "from catalytic converter to the exhaust tips" and a supercharger and a electronic air/fuel ration controller and etc...

Does'nt it adds up to a good amount of increase HP to notice the difference?

It didn't work then, and it doesn't work now.

It's completely worthless, both on carbureted and fuel-injected engines; it's just an obstruction to airflow and will slightly reduce horsepower.

if you're gonna do somethin' ... do it right man ...

Start with a better air intake and exhaust system ... but don't EVER fall for that "as seen on TV" crap!

8hp is a lot ... if you do 8hp here and there, you can squeeze 15-30+ hp out of just about anything ...
