Advice on Asus N10 netbook "Will Atom bottleneck the 9300"

I am not satisfied with my M1330 at all it came home with a non working usb port and got it replaced this is just very childish on dell's part. Thus, i have asked for a refund and sent the M1330 back for return. After a dozen emails i am sure will get the payment back in around a week.

I now am in the market for a new laptop be it a netbook or notebook. I waas just thinking how well would it go against a M1330 with 8400 in gaming , since i know that 8400~9300 but the processor's are way different. So i did install and played crysis on lo on the xps and it did work smoothly will it also be true for the n10 or will the atom bottleneck the 9300????

atom is not meant for gaming at all. everyone has their own definition of whats playable, but my idea is not something that runs at maybe 10fps with all settings set at lowest quality. why would you want to game on a 10 inch screen anyways? 😵

Net books are just bairly able to handle internet and office. The Atom is nothing more then a crippled P4 that was scaled down in size. They are not meant for heavy working.

Well i actually liked the new apple air a lot.... I was planning to buy that and put windows in it via bootcamp and maybe play things on the lovely thing until it was listed here for Rs.1,10,000 "$2300" which is a whole lot more than i planed to spend on a notebook with 9400!!!

So actually what i want is basically a light, cheap notebook/netbook that can drive games like NFS undercover in low !!! Also since this is a buy that i will have to tug along for about a year or more i want something that is durable and not something that has quality issues...!!! Also i have noticed that 640*480 on a 9" screen does not seem half as bad...!!

EDIT:- ASUS N10 is proclaimed as a NETBOOK GAMING alternative as there is a dedicated Nvidia 9300 within...

Yes, but the CPU is terrible. If you want a "gaming netbook" then I guess you will have to wait for dual-core Atom or look at 13-in laptops.

Although it can probably run need for speed.

well considering that all the other netbooks use crappy intel integrated graphics, its the only alternative you'll find. but in my opinion its just not meant for anything of the sort and waayyy expensive.

also i think that macbook air uses a 4200 rpm hd, which would not be ideal for gaming either. (i could be wrong on that since i dont follow macs very close)

basically it seems like you are trying to shoehorn something that these machines weren't meant to really do. then again you think 640x480 with low settings is perfectly fine. so to each their own 😛

The macbook air does use a 4200 rpm hdd "goodcatch"... Also i was trying shoehorn something that these machines weren't meant to really do because i want to get off cheap, i spent a lot on my custom dell M1330 and it was worthless...!!!

Is there a notebook around 1.5kgs that has a nvidia 9300/9400 or 3470/3450 and a good cpu and also does not cost a small fortune /???

but the thing is.. the n10 isnt really cheap. its around $700 isnt it? thats the most expensive 'netbook' to date. then again, i've no idea what other option there are where you live, so it could be one of the few options you have. i actually think your M1330 would have better gaming performance than the n10 due to its vastly superior processor, so you might end up being disappointed with the n10 results.

At the n10's price I would just get a regular notebook because you can't find anything better than the n10 that still has a small size.

Are you ok with 2-2.5kg? Then all the options open up.

Well, the 9300 is allegedly 5x better than the X3100. I'd imagine to be on par or slightly slower than the 8400M. Did you maybe consider the new Macbook?

Edit: on the sidenote I went ahead and bought a M1330 off the outlet to replace my MBP and I like it so far...the 8400M GS didn't seem like a slouch vs. the 8600M GT, probably because everything now runs at a lower resolution. Although the M1330 is pretty well built and it's actually exceeded my expectation of Dell machines.

My M1330 was made in China and also i got my refund. Since 1.5kg is not going to cut it i bought a mac book with the 9400 "Not Air" and it worked out ok. The new Mac book was a bit pricey from the M1330 but then again i will probably sell it for a bit more than i would have done with the M1330.

On the side note:- Windows runs great on a mac book which is what i wanted and the speakers on the mac book were better than the ones on m1330 a lot better!!! Quite impressed with the glass lining also seems quite a treat for my fingers...!!! But the whole laptop is now full of finger spots and prints. Even moister from my hand's leaves a mark...?

This is one of the reasons I sold my Macbook. No matter what you do the thing gets filthy and looks like crap. I currently have an M1330 running Vista and wil probably end up selling it soon. I never "connected" to this laptop like I did to my old x300.

Glad to hear that you avoided the Air. That thing is is disaster waiting to happen. The main killer of electronics (especially computers) is heat. The Air has little cooling capability. While it may run cooler this lack of cooling will ultimately be its undoing.

LG P300... should run about $1150 USD

Specs:

1.6 kg
13.3" LED backlit screen (1280x800)
T8300 2.4 GHz
2GB DDR2
nvidia 8600gs

yeaah

You can try the Ideapad U330... retails for about Rs. 64,000......

I am also in the market for a notebook, I am confused of getting this U330, or M1330.... however I have had a lot of my friends complain about the build quality on the M1330, here in India and the Support just sucks.
