Advice on adjusting monitor settings ?

I just got my brand-new Samsung SyncMaster 900NF and plugged it into my Radeon... BOOM!!! 19" of pure visual bliss! 🙂 Anyway, I was just wondering what resolution and refresh you guys use the monitor at and what numbers you have for these "wierd" settings like Clear Moire, Focus, Convergence, Purity, Video Input Level. Some of them make no difference what I set them to! Maybe I'm just not used to all of these options, my old monitor has size and position and a couple of geometry settings...

UPDATE: Anybody have any tips on how I should adjust my monitor? I heard somebody say that a full screen wallpaper of 2" black and white squares or something like that works well.

These are the settings that I use for 1280x1024 at 85hz. When I had a voodoo3 the settings were totally different.

just set it to your preferences, your vid card will make it different, so it's almost pointless to compare those "wierd" settings.

as for res, whatever you can stand. I'd be doing 16x12 on a 19", and no matter what res, i'd shoot for 85hz refresh or better @ 16x12, or else i ain't buying it (probably why i don't have one, the ones that fit the bill seem to not fit onto my bills 🙂).

enjoy the monitor, my roommate has the 700nf.. and it looks nice. I just tend to shy away from the trinitrons, color looks amazing, but damn lines (sorry, i just notice them all the time) and they seem to give a concaved effect to the screen. i've found that i don't like that alll that much.

Yup the settings will really vary. For instance, many of GT578's settings are 20-30 off mine yet I'm sure both of ours are looking great.

As fas as those 5 that you listed, I haven't changed those from the default settings. I've only did some geometry settings and the brightness/contrast.

I'm running 1280x1024@100hz. Rarely run 1600x1200, but do when I need lots of desktop space.

My settings took ....what like 30 minutes to really get it right. The only bad thing is there is no default settings on this monitor so its hard to adjust if you don't know what you're doing...I found that purity and focus settings are really helpful because I care a lot about 2D(i know the TNT2 ultra has horrible 2D..but its a temporary card)...
