I just got a great deal on a Toshiba Core Duo laptop. It needs more ram, it currently has 512mb DDR2 533 ram(1 stick), I may want to go with 2gb ram in the future(next year), do you think it would be benificial to go ahead and get a 1gb 667 stick now, and forego dual channel until I get a second 1gb stick, to avoid having to waste?

Or with the price of memory currently, should I just get another 512mb 533 stick and get 2x1gb 667 sticks when the prices go down in the spring?

I would say get a 1gb stick now. Then you will have 1.5gb. Dual channel on a laptop isnt all that great. You should be set with just a 1gb upgrade(im in the works of doing it)

For most programs, I found 1GB quite sufficient. Unless you're planning on doing some real number crunching, the additional 512Mb will be sufficient. Your C2D should handle anything that comes up. I've done video editing and rendering with my lowly 1.6 Centrino and 1GB RAM, very nicely.

Your C2D is a lot faster.

Unless I'm mistaken, I won't be able to run 1.5gb in a dual channel lappy, will I?

Also, I don't run many tasking programs per say, but I never close windows, I like leaving everything up.

Plus I'm looking forward to vista.

Have RC2 running on my main pc.
