a coworker had a friend configure him a computer and this is what his friend came up with. kinda pricey, i think. he wants to play everquest 2 on it. what do you guys think of these specs? i figure he can probably do without the lanboy and ram without heatspreaders. opinions? thanks!

Yeah try to stay at a gig of ram but bring it down below $200 (ie no heat sinks). He can probably find a cheaper mouse and power supply. The hard drive can be scaled back to around 80gb unless he wants to do video editing or d/l videos. He might like/need the case for portability and looks, but otherwise get a "plainer" Antec.

Not bad. I'm with Jessie on using less expensive, yet quality, RAM. Outside of that, the ABIT AV8 would be a nice board to use to save a few more bucks. Used it in a recent system build and the overall level of features at a ~$110 price point for a Socket-939 board was hard to beat. I believe there was also a post for the XFX GF 6800 that could shave another $20 off the system (price was through Newegg in the HD forum).
