Hi guys,

I'm interested in purchasing a new pc gaming rig without the hassle of throwing it together myself. My price point can get me a higher end system and I have been considering the likes of Falcon Northwest and Alienware.

I'm a bit out of the loop on who are some of the top companies for a rig like this.

If you guys have experience with a company similar to the ones mentioned above or know of a good resource comparing them I would very much appreciate it!

Thanks,

Alienware is good, but they are gaming or video editing PCs, dell is good but sadly over priced, I have heard people say good things about Falcon Northwest, I use to work for alienware they do good work, they always have the craziest rigs

Since you were in the industry who are their other main competitors?

Most everyone here is a DIY'er.... why would you not build your own ? Warranty is better...and it is much less expensive.

You may want to look at the reviews here :

If you can't or won't build it yourself from individually-ordered parts, go with Dell or HP. Price out what you want with each company, and go with whichever offering is cheapest. Alienware and Falcon are overpriced and offer no better performance or service than the big guys. In fact, Alienware is owned by Dell, so service for both should be identical or close to it.

Alienware was swallowed up by Dell.
VoodooPC was snagged by HP.
Falcon is still standing on its own.

i'm thinking of getting a custom built pc instead of a dell or hp as well. i went to falcon's site and configured a 'low end' pc, and it was still over $2k with no monitor. i think that puts their pricing substantially above the equivalent dell or hp, although with some slightly better components. most of the pre-built (but configured) pc's i'm looking at are around $1k without a monitor. some differences in components but not nearly $1k worth...maybe $200...

i don't need a hardcore gaming rig, just something fast that can handle manipulation of large digital images... if i could find someone locally (sf bay area) with a good reputation i might go that route, am pretty tired of dell in particular. just bought a new lappy for my daughter and it's not working right out of the box. i spent 2 1/2 hrs on the phone with tech support and they literally have no idea why it's not working, but it's not. it's going back to dell.

I'm getting ready to customize some computers for work. I like the looks of this company called Puget Custom Computers. They have a link to their Reseller Rating right on the home page and the rating is really good. You can read customer reviews there. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Overdrive PC. They overclock their systems, and guarantee the overclocks, which is almost unheard of. My system arrives this Friday...
