Advice on a car sub.......

Hello i just installed my first stereo system in my car. I have 2 6.5 infintis and 2 6x9 infinitis. I would like some more bass. The local shop recomended jl, but they are kinda expensive. I still dont have any amps yet but i am getting a kenwood 4 channel to run my existing speakers and will get another to run my sub. Can anyone recomend a less expensive sub that sounds good. Thanks

Steven

he's going to have to get an amp for his sub regardless. Nobody in their right mind runs a sub off the head unit. Rockford Fosgate makes decent subwoofers for punchy bass and the price is right too.

If you have the money, go Infinity all the way.

I highly recommend Rockford Fosgate equipment; I have 10" x 2 Punch HE subs with a 400S amp. I'm very pleased with the way these subs sound; they rock my Eclipse like crazy.

I ran a small 10" sub off my Pioneer DEH-P7300 for awhile before I could afford a real setup.
It was fine... no where close to what an amp could pump out, but it was definitely better than the bass coming out of the 6.5's inside.

Am I out of my mind?

I bought a used JL Audio 10W-0 for 40 bucks a couple years ago from a friend- I love it! I'd buy one used off eBay if the buyer sounds competent. Then I'd get a JBL amp.

Larger drivers are MORE efficient.
A large sub will pound just off the head unit.
I know the red neck installer told you otherwise, but he wants to sell you an amp, and doesn't know better.
You will probaly want a separate amp anyway, but the LARGER the driver, the more EFFICIENT it is, so you need LESS power to reach the same volume.

*cough* www.partsexpress.com look for the 15inch Dayton DVC *cough*
*cough* www.adireaudio.com look for the Tempest (basically a slightly better 15inch Dayton DVC *cough*

*cough* either of those subs are up in quality with the JL15w3, probably the JL15w6 as well, they roast most RF stuff, destroy sony, etc etc *cough*

Hey well i know that the larger the sub the cleaner but i would like to know what brands would be equivalent to the jls. I understand the amps arnt necessary but i do want one bc it does sound better with them. I do understand the car audio guy just wants to sell me something of his but i dont plan on buying from bc he charges alot. I would get the jl sub from him just bc those are hard to find for below retail. A 10inch sub from them is $99 so it isnt a rip off but the amps are. I would just like to know what are some other subs that sound good. I have a plan about my stereo so i dont really need any advice on that. I just need some advice on the sub. I would though like to refrase my question to what are good subs for under $100 since that is what i would spend on the 10inch jl at my local place. Thanks

If you're getting an amp/amps for those door and rear speakers, then I really don't think you'll need a sub. My friend has infinitys in his car running off of an amp, and they punch as well as a decently powered 8 or 10.

If however, you need more than that, check out Ike Sound. They've got great prices, and I've had only good experiences with them in the past. I got two 12" Orion HCCA's a while back, along with an 1800w amp.. they thump, but I'll probably sell it all soon.. just not into it anymore.

It would be a complete waste, my buddy runs 900 watts rms into his W7 and the thing is just getting started, doubt he can afford $400+ amplifier

oh yeah, what car is this?

well i just got my liscense and i am putting this system in my first car, a volvo 740 station wagon. So i dont really want to spend a whole lot but i want to get nice stuff. I dont think that i can afford a $400 amp just for the sub like gogeeta13 said. I am think about running like a $250 watt 2channel kenwood bridged to the amp.
