Question Advice needed: Titan X Pascal 12GB for $250. Good idea?

I have an opportunity to get the Titan X Pascal 12GB for $250. I don't really need to, since I have the 3060 Ti (unopened. Don't know if I should open it just yet. Still trying to decide if I should sell it off for a small profit or just hang onto it for when I really need it). The 3060 has 8GB VRAM. The Titan has 12GB and it's just a bit slower than the 3060. I'm kinda thinking of getting the Titan just in case some game in the near future has high-res textures that the 3060 is unable to fit into its VRAM. I'm still not really convinced that raytracing is going to become the baseline in the future so it's possible that the Titan may have some good years left. Opinion/advice anyone?

I mean as you said yourself the 3060ti is actually faster than the Titan, so you'd be downgrading with it. 12GB of vram don't matter if the core itself can't run games at solid fps. I mean it matters in current top end cards for future proofing as much as possible, since they already run games at high frames, but for older cards the vram is the least of your worries!

Even for $250 I don't see how the Titan X is worth it, since as I predicted on multiple posts here the used cards prices are dropping even when there isn't any actual stock of GPU's, they will continue to drop a lot more when we actually get stock of GPU's in the next months!

No! No it's a terrible idea and you need to tell me who is selling you this terrible deal so I can contact them and buy it before they sucker some other poor unsuspecting fool into a bad deal

Seriously though, for that level of performance @1440p, 8gb should be plenty for the time being. Stick with the newer tech with the newer features.

Titan X or Titan Xp?
Either way, that's a hell of a deal for what's essentially a better 1080 Ti. I'd Honestly sell the 3060 Ti while you can for what you paid for it, and just run with the Titan X for now. If you want more performance, you can always take that 3060 Ti cash and sell the Titan for more than you paid for it once the stock situation improves and buy a 3080 with it.

Hell, even if you want to keep the 3060 Ti you should buy the Titan X (after testing to make sure it works) and flip it. Buy yourself a nice RAM kit with the proceeds.

That is a card that isn't coming until February and that is another paper launch. We still don't have RTX 3090/80/70 and 60ti and the 60ti launched just yesterday. If he sells both he'd have nothing to game on, and in terms of him buying a 3080 for those money, good luck, they are completely out of stock and most of the prices are at least $80 more than MSRP, realistically though more like $120 more and that is if you can find one in stock!

And if he keeps the titan x, then that card will depreciate in value a lot more as stock of current cards get higher, so in 2 months when stocks should stabilize, we would see used card market crush down! I'm telling you, you will be getting 1080, 1080ti, RX 5700, 2600, etc... for $200 and less!

I'd probably sell the 3060 Ti and run with the Titan for now and the foreseeable future. It's just too good of a deal with the rest of the market the way it is. Unless you really think you need to be able to run ray tracing (which the 3060 Ti isn't going to be particularly great at anyway depending on resolution) I don't see a lot of reason to hang on to a card that you can always buy 6 months from now for less than what you'll be able to sell it for. Once the supply shortages are over, I expect that AMD and Nvidia will start to get into a bit of a price war in the mid-range, which might even make the whole thing all that much better.

Wow. Differing opinions. Now I'm even more indecisive. I don't need anything more powerful than a 3060 Ti. Remember, nVidia's gonna release a TSMC refresh of the 3000 series at some point soon that might make current owners of the Samsung fabbed 3000 series envious. Sucks not knowing if nVidia will increase the VRAM on the 3060 SUPER. That would make me regret my 3060 Ti 8GB purchase. Arrgghhhh. I need a peek into the future, just a wee bit! By the way, the 3060 Ti cost me about the same as a new Xbox Series X in Abu Dhabi. The shopkeeper showed me his original cost price invoice. The distributors are enjoying a nice margin over MSRP.

It turned out that the Titan X was actually a Geforce GTX Titan X so slower. Got it for $186 and sold off the 3060 Ti not two days ago for $598 (only $10 higher than what I paid for it). Good riddance (Don't want to be stuck with just 8GB VRAM) but the buyer was pretty lucky I guess, with news of the price hikes from the likes of ASUS et al.

A "Titan X" and a "Geforce GTX Titan X" are the exact same thing. Unless you typoed and you thought it would be a Titan XP, and was actually a Titan X. Thats a pretty big speed difference.

There was actually 3 GPUs there, Titan X was a 3072 SP GM200 part, then there was a 3584 SP GP102 Titan X, and then the 3840 SP GP102 Titan Xp.

I find that very very unlikely.
Porting a design over is not an easy thing and almost amounts to a redesign.
Takes ages too, so they would have had to start the process over a year ago, I should think.
Plus 7nm availability is poor negating the one advantage Samsung have one yields are sorted.

It's even less likely because TSMC is so wafer constrained right now that Nvidia would have to buy wafers off of someone else at a price premium. Part of the reason that they went with Samsung in the first place was that they didn't like TSMC's pricing and the short supply of wafers only makes that worse.
