hello all,

i have problems with a bad deal with a senior member here and am looking for advice.

summary:
i sent him a money order in the beginning of july for $210. he said he never received it.
i submitted a postal investigation on the money order, they said that if someone else cashed it besides the person on the money order or if it had not been deposited at all, i would get my money back. if it was the person, i would be SOL.

the usps sent me a scan last week of the money order. it HAD been deposited by the person i was dealing with. it was cashed in his area on july 18th, with a college Photo ID from the college that he goes to (below the signature on the money order they write down what type of ID was used for verification). when i confronted him about it, he said that someone else must have signed it, that he could prove it by showing it didnt match what was on his State ID (he could have purposely made it different though), and that it was the post office's fault for accepting a college photo id, and not a state issued id.

therefore, i was thinking of submitting some kind of claim with the post office if it is indeed true that they are only supposed to accept State issued IDs OR just go and open an investigation with his local police department, since this seems to be going nowhere.

i'd like to proceed with this without necessarily tarnishing someone's rep.

Thanks in advance!

File a claim with the post office and the local (yours and his) police dept for mail fraud. They did not write an id number on the check?

Unless he can prove someone stole his id, then you have a pretty good case against him. Man I hate trolls!

Oh yeah and use some sort of signature delivery confirmation or a return receipt, then you have absolute proof. Part of this is your fault because you did not take the right precautions against getting scewed. Just because someone has done 40 good deals or is a senior member means nothing on this board anymore.

BTW, PM me his name, I wanna know who NOT to deal with in the future... Thanks.

Don't mention his/her name on this forum, until it is proven.

Sounds just like something that happened to me about two years ago on Ebay. I purchased something from a guy who worked for the University of Mo. and sent him a USPS money order. He claimed he never got it, but after waiting about six months for my claim to be processed by the USPS, I received a copy of the money order showing that his wife had cashed the money order. I asked for a refund and he said no way, he was going to send me what I won on Ebay. A deal was a deal. Forget the fact that what I had bid on had decreased in value about 50% since I originally won the auction. We both traded bitter feedback for about a month. Finally, I gave up. And decided to stop buying off of Ebay for that type of product. Let the buyer beware.

Good luck on your claim. If he did in fact not cash the money order, you should file a claim with the USPS stating the M.O. was forged. If he did cash it, that is more commonly known as mail fraud and when the USPS investigates it, he will be in for a big surprise.

Take him to small claims court if you have enough proof. Just starting the process may make him nervous enough to pay up or whatever.

What a d!ck he is!
