advice needed please!...Planar Lcd vs. Samsung..

a beautiful amex blue card arrived two days ago, and since there's 0% APR on it for the next three months I thought I'd put it to good use...and no, this is not the start of credit card debt because I'm working over the summer 🙂 ...
I'm looking at LCDs, and I've heard the best about Planar and Samsung. The best prices I've found on Planar are $699 for the 17.4" CT1744Z (analog only) and $899 for the 18.1" (analog/digital/s-video). ..Obviously I'd like the 18.1" , but it's hard to justify the extra $200+ (with tax)...are the extra features of the 18.1" that much more worth it? Game performance is also a factor...

I've also looked at the Samsung lcds, but their price range seems even higher...

Planar 17.4"

Planar 18.1"

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated..thanks!

I saw that, thanks, but I'm not sure of the response times on the viewsonics... I've heard a lot of good things about the planars and samsungs in gaming, and overall quality..

I've heard bad things about the analog Planars. I have the 18.1" Planar and can say nothing but good things about it. Are you sure the 17.4" is analog only? I thought the 17" was analog only, the 17.4 was analog/digital like the 18.1.

hmmm...you're right, the 17.4" IS analog and digital...

but I ordered the 18.1" anyways 😀 ...coupons & free next-day shipping (I hope?) brought the price down significantly =]...hope it works out well.

Cerebus, what vid card are you using with yours? I have a geforce2gts with only the standard connector... will that affect picture/performance quality?

Thanks,
SK

I would wait half a year unless you really need an lcd now. I believe that is when flat panel CRTs are coming out. A little later, but better refresh rates, and all of the goodness of a CRT.

ok, it just arrived....soooo sweeet.......arghh.......

but what's this about flat screen crts?

More info needed pleaaase.... if this is so i have to $*&#( return this and wait more.... :frown:
