Picked up a '07 Jetta Wolfsburg 1 1/2 days ago and I park in valet everyday when I come home and the few guys there park my car in the basement below. I notice this morning when I got out of my car at work there's a nice sized scratch on the passenger side.

I haven't made a monthly payment on this car and i'm frustrated with this new finding. I called the garage to complain about it to the manager and was offered a private spot of my own without the need of someone else handling my car. Seemed like there was no hassle in the conversation when it was brought up.

Also, the valet guys were rough with my other car in the past and noticed very minor scratches but, not enough to complain about it since it was an older car.

I'm thinking this will be an easy few hundred dollars to cover the damages.

I gave the dealership a call to see what they can do and the salesman said he has to talk to his manager and let me know once he finds out.

what advice do you need? Are you thinking you should have went with a Nissan instead? I really don't blame you. While you will sacrifice MPG, you will gain HP and chick magnet power.

On how to handle the scratch on the back panel. Looking for maybe similar experiences I suppose.

I'll have to review the guidelines because they have a clause saying somewhere that they are not responsible for damages etc etc. Standard Parking company in Chicago. Although, i'm not 100% sure on this.

the point is that it sucks, but no one is going to take care of it for you.

Cars get scratched, doors get dinged, life goes on. Its brand new to you, so its a super big deal. If you step back and look at it, a 5 year old car got a very, very minor scratch at some point. The dealer will say it wasn't like that when it left the lot, the parking guys will say it was like that when they parked it.

You might have better luck in The Garage. I'm sure one of those guys can tell you how to fix it yourself in 15 minutes for $50.

100% not true.

If a the bumper on a parked porsche gets taken off because a valet doesn't know how to make a left turn in a lifted truck, the valet company is responsible for the damages (true story)

the ONLY thing you must do is file a claim before you leave the garage.

The only thing the manager offered at this point was a self serve spot but, I have yet to show him and discuss face to face about it. I'm thinking he thinks its a very small hairline scratch i'm complaining about.

I've damaged cars and I've seen other cars get damaged, they always get fixed, and it's always the valet company that pays.

I'm pretty sure there were standard liability disclaimers in our valet tags too.

Only downside was that when I noticed this I had to leave for work and had no time to discuss this problem. I've never had to deal with something like this before.

Not that it matters but, i've been paying these guys for four years and never made a peep or complaint.

Cause enough of a stink and I'm sure you could get the repair + private parking spot.

Valet your car can be frustrating
When you get frustrated you go to a bar and get drunk
When you go to a bar and get drunk, you wind re-enacting movie scenes with Charlie Sheen.

Don't valet your car.
