I just received my new GA-P35-DS3R yesterday. Unfortunately it is Rev. 1. I am wondering if Rev. 2 is much superior? I would like your opinion whether I should keep it, or I should return it and wait until they have Rev. 2 in stock here in Canada.

I was successful in installing this new MB without having to reinstall Win XP. Everything went well as far as the OS is concerned.

CPUz shows both core temperatures at 58C on idle. It seems awfully high. Should I worry about it?

My CPU is E6400, which has 8X multipier. The MB was setting the FSB at 333 which should give CPU speed of 2664. But the MB was setting the mutiplier to 6 and it was running slow.

I changed a couple of the parameters in the BIOS that I thought had something to do with power saving. Now it keeps the multipier at 8, which should give me 333 x 8 = 2664. However, CPUz shows the the CPU speed at much lower, something around 1600.

So I am wondering what I am doing wrong. Maybe my CPU is really running hot and the CPU is slowing down as a result of that to prevent it from getting fried. But it really doesn't feel to be running hot.

Any tips or suggestions you can give me about temperatures and about improving the CPU speed would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure where you are reading temps off CPUz, but yes 58C idle is high.

It sounds like you disabled EIST in BIOS which locked the multi. Is your FSB set to Manual is BIOS?

It can say 450, for example, but if not set to Manual it will be something much lower, the FSB number in BIOS changes colors when you go from AUTO to MANUAL.

I think a CPUz screenshot would help everyone help you.

EDIT: Did you also disable C1E enhanced halt state in BIOS?

Your old XP install surely had lots chipset specific drivers for your previous mobo, are you sure you could uninstall them properly ? (if its possible even...then Windows hotfixes)

I'd do a clean XP install on other HDD to see if it was a driver conflict issue - otherwise re-seat cpu hsf (I've noted my board bends pretty much at cpu area, giving too little contact between hsf and cpu, if you applied own paste, you could see a poor contact on the "thermal paste print"
