Currently own an abitbx6rev2 mobo with cel400a chip, 256mbram, 16mb 3dfx video card. SCSI system with two seagate cheetah drives 9 and 18gb. scsi yamaha burner etc.
I would like to put new life into the system.
What are some good mobo/cpu combos that would work well with my SCSI stuff. I am not a gamer but would like to get into some video editing.
If i were just to replace mobo, cpu, ram and video where would I get the most bang for the buck?

For video editing, you might consider getting some kind of dual-processor system. MSI makes the 694DPro2-IR It has onboard FireWire. It can take up to four Registered ECC memory modules, allowing for up to 2Gb of RAM. And from what I've heard, video editing can take a lot of RAM. This board should jive with your SCSI equipment, I have an older variant of it. Dualies are nice because you can do other stuff while they're hammering away in the background on one CPU.

A Northwood Pentium4 with an RDRAM-equipped motherboard might be another good choice, since the P4 is known to do well with typical video-editing tasks. Or for a pure budget-mobile you could pick up a ECS K7S5A and an AthlonXP, and re-use your SDRAM for the time being, then add some big DDR modules when you can afford it.

If you do get the 694DPro2-IR, and plan to add lots of memory as time goes by, start with Registered ECC. The board will support eight banks (four double-sided modules) if you're using R-ECC, but R-ECC cannot be mixed with other types of memory. With non-Registered memory, the board only supports six banks. No matter what you get, plan ahead with your memory loadout so you don't fill up the slots and still not have enough because the modules weren't big enough.
