Advice needed for buying GPU card for F@H

Here's the one I just bought: link

It's an EVGA 8800GT w/ 512MB RAM and OC'd by manufacturer from 600 to 650 MHz, I believe.

I'm not sure what processor it is but I could check the specs from the EVGA website.

I just started running it and initially fahmon predicted 4750 ppd but time will tell I guess.

Right now I'm out of town relaxing lakefront but it looks like it really is cranking out the points based on my scores.

My 8600GTS w/ 256 MB RAM gave 1350 ppd and used 30 some % of total CPU on a stock Q6600 running Vista.

The 8800GT only uses 8% total CPU which is about 25% of one core I guess.

Very nice card so far!🙂

The 8800GT 512MB is always a G92 core.

The 8800GTS is the card that has both G80/G92 versions. The G80 8800GTS cards have 320MB/640MB of VRAM while the G92 8800GTS has 512MB. You definitely want the G92 version.

You might want to see what the folding performance is like on the HD 4850... right now the HD 3870 is pretty bad at folding compared to nVidia cards, but maybe that will change.

I'm pretty sure I read that the downloads are ~1mb and the uploads are ~2mb.

Oh, and just as a point of reference, I'm getting around 2,700 points per day using my 8800GTS 320mb (G80). I read that the G92 cards are getting around 4,000-4,500 PPD.
