Hell.
ok so i got a new q6600 which was giving me problems with heat trying O.C and had the same sort of problems with the old one untill i bought a new OCZ Gladiator and installed with arctic 5 ceramic by taking board out and fitting as properly as i could and well i was astonished my temps dropped from mid 40's idle to low high 29s and low 30's i have now managed to get a overlcock over 3.6ghz and temsp are 52,51,55,52 doing blend prime95 for the last 6 hours would you consider that stable and safe to use 10-15 hours of the day sometimes less? here is my cpu-z vali
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1833748

ive had to pump up the vcore to 1.5v in bios but cpu-z showing less 1.448.

my motherboard is a P5Q-Deluxe so at the mo my fsb is at its max 1600 stated for that board.

any comments wold be appreciated

try disable ce1 and disable speedstep i know those two make my q6600 overclocking unstable,i had a asus rog maximus that did 3.2ghzs on stock i dont remember needing 1.5v for 3.6ghzs

New Q6600? What year is this? *checks calendar*

And great post #2: fully quote yourself from #1 to add one line. This is what the Edit button is for.

I would not run a q6600 at 1.5V. I prefer my cpus to live decently long even if they are old. I never push my q6600 above 1.4V,

Because I learn from having my mistakes being pointed out to me. If you don't find them constructive, that's your call.

And it was worth checking that "new Q6600" was correct & not a typo.

the Q6600 was new i found it by sheer luck at a computer fair that comes my way sunday of every month. It was unsealed in retail box clean as a whistle.

I have now managed to get it down to 1.448v and can run all torture tests on prime95 temps never go above 59.c and run at 29.30.c idle. But bios it showing 1.5v i think it under volts

Turning speedstep off is just a huge waste of electricity. If it is not stable with speedstep then... it is not stable.

For 3.6Ghz vcore of 1.40v would be enough unless it drops vdrop.

enable load line calib ,,, You getting vdrop uh ?

The temps might need a offset of -15 not shure on the PQ

Might be a pencil mod not shure...

1.44 is too much for 3.6 , you getting vdrop ? ty

Can only mange to pass prime95 all tests at 1.448v and since i dont know much about the clock skews, ai booster or cpu gtl ref's i dont mess about with them. maybe you can see where i am going wrong.

This is a perfect voltage for that CPU

You are getting vdrop my friend,. thats what that is. well set something in the BIOS, then boot up and look

If you choose 1.5v which you did and see it as 1.44 that is a vdrop.

Doesnt mean you cant be stable though.

Also 1600Mhz Bus is not max for that board, more like 2000Mhz..
Also disable C1E and SPeedStep or whatever else.
any more q let me know..

thx gg and gl and gb

ok i will disablw v-droop and try for 425x9. i will soon a be upgading the the 1-5 2400k with same maker motherboard deluxe version and some g-skill ram. but any comments on the 3.7-3.8ghz mark wud be good as my temps are really good rite now idle 32,33,34,34 idle 49/50 /53/54 load blend prime 95. i coould do with help learning the gtl ref volts and so on. and i also keep my ram 1:1 ration to rule our that. btw if you would like to know my cooler it is a #ocz gladiator with as5 ceramic. ill let you know how 425x9 goes now :)

ok so far got 3708mhz 412x9
' 1.496v teps now at load doing blend are 60,63,662,61 but shuold go down a but more once paste has cured 59-100 hours? opps 2nd test jumps tems up tp 67,67,67,67 on blend but back down to low 60's high 50's so fr iver only added ram volt to 1.9 since its over 400mhz now and the ram i am using are 4x1 kingston hyperx 8500 1066mhz which i plan to drop to 2x2gb corsair or ocz. enthig else i might need to change. Also raied SB 1.3v as i have a good heatsink on it vuston made shud take lots of heat. bearig in mind ive only been doing this 6 months now im not too bad :)

Those temperatures are fine - no worries there. That voltage though is more than I would like to run. I can also get 3.6 if I crank it up that high. But I can get 3.2 on stock voltage which makes me more comfortable. That's the way mines been running for the last three years.

It all sounds pretty good to me! My Q66 needed 1.5125v without LLC, reading as 1.44 at load to be stable at 400x8! With LLC i use 1.425v reading as 1.408. If you are getting 400x9 at anything near 1.45-1.5 it sounds like a better chip than mine!

What are you using to monitor the temps? Sub-60C seems awfully good for that vCore and frequency. In any case, I would rather take comfortable 3.3~3.4 GHz (heck even 3.2 GHz which is likely achievable near stock vCore) than headache-inducing 3.6 GHz.
