Advice...Las Vegas

So, as of the 23rd, I am going to be moving over to Las Vegas. My dad has lived there for 8 years, so I'm familiar with the city, although I mainly spent time there as a teenager, not since I've been an adult. In fact, it's been about 3 1/2 years since I've been there. I hate the city, but my opportunity level is so much higher there than in this hellhole they call Arizona. (No offense to people that like AZ, I grew up here and I hate it) So the opportunity/need arose to go to Las Vegas, enroll in school (UNLV) as a biology major, and to get my life back on the proper track. What I want to know is...

Is there anyone here that lives in Vegas, Boulder, Henderson, or the surrounding area?

Does anyone have links on the web that have information about community, employment, etc in Vegas? I do searches, but there's SOOO much crap info for *visitors* that I'm not getting much about the actual city.

Does anyone have an general advice that I haven't heard? Example of the kind of advice I *don't* need - "Vegas is a 24 hour drinking town, are you sure you're going to be okay there?" "You're trying to get your life straightened out by going to *VEGAS*?!?!??" "Make sure you don't gamble away all your money" etc.

Eh. Even after having lived here for several years (7 or so) I don't know much about the town. The tech industry consists of outsourced tech support and AS/400s for casinos.

I would do tech support again... I worked in tech support from '97-'99 for MindSpring in Harrisburg, PA prior to the merger with Earthlink. I didn't mind it, did support for hardware, software, and some LAN stuff for win 3.1, 95, 98, and NT 4.0 mac 7.5.1-8.5.1 a little bit of webhosting etc... what kind of tech support?
