Ok i have a question to ask i own a X6800 and its running at 3.6 now stable. The question i have is i know the quad cores are coming out soon would it be wise to sell this chip and pick the new quad core chip. ( i know there not true Quad cores) or would you suggest that i keep mine? i had a buddy of mine tell me about the quad cores are out (price drop coming) and he thought it would be a good idea to sell this one and grab the quad core but i notice too the highest quad will be 2.66 stock. and mine is at 2.93 stock plus a have it OC to 3.6 stable. What do you people think at this point is it worth it? Also one last thing to throw at you will these Quad cores out perform this X6800? Also correct me if I'm wrong here but from what i understand the Quad cores have a 4 core per die. i use my PC mostly to play gaming. I also know that the quad cores are alot harder to OC than dual but that's expected. from what I'm reading there not a whole lot of need for quads right now( At least for me i think) because there saying there not a whole lot of gain from the dual and the quads is this true? i just don't want to make a wrong decision and get rid of my X6800 for a quad and regret it in the long run?

Keep your X6800. You most likely won't get a Q6600 to 3600GHz - and even if you do, you will need some pretty high-end watercooling. Whether you will put it to good use is another question.

The general rule is - if you have to ask if you need a quad-core, you probably don't need it. 😉

I do use Water cooling i figure to myself it wasn't worth the upgrade but wasn't sure what other people thought.i was debating after a buddy of mine was telling me about it. But i figure it really wasn't worth it just want to confirm this.

no real benefit to quad right now, especially considering the price; you should at least wait until the price drops, hopefully you can suffer using your lowly 3.6ghz C2D for just a couple of months

LOL.. yea I'll try my best to make it by. thanks guy i like to confirm before making any big decision. I kinda had a feeling this was not worth the upgrade i made another post on another forum and there telling me the same thing.

hm, one other thing i just thought of is that if you do go quad core, it's most likely you won't be able to OC it to 3.6GHz, so in every other game besides Supreme Commander you would actually lose some performance.

you're on water and your x6800 is 'only' at 3600 ? Come on get it up to 4ghz dude ! 😀 If you do that, theres absolutely no reason whatsoever to think about getting a qaud right now if gaming is your main priority.
