I have decided that now is the time to order parts for my first build. But there are a few things I am unsure about.

1. Which would be better: The new E8400 C2D or a Q6600
The Q6600 is about $30 more. Which would be best consdering I probably won't overclock.

2. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L ATX or Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R ATX
The DS3L is ~$40 cheaper. Is the DS3R worth the extra money?

3. I need a mid-range card. I am not really a hardcore gamer. Is the 8600 GT is decent low-mid range card?

1. Well if you do anything 3D and video editing, go for Q6600 or better still, one of the 45nm quad cores when they're out. If you're a casual user ( little gaming, mainly surfing and office work), I don't see why you need such a high end proc ( E8400 or C2D).

2. From what I found, the DS3R and the DS3L are identical apart from R offering RAID functionality... I can't justify $40 for that lol.

3. If you read other articles, 8600 is really overpriced and underpowered. Go for 8800GT 256MB or the 3850.

Go for this.

I forget to mention I live in Canada. I scanned the Canadian Best Buy site and they don't seem to have any deals on video cards.

How is the Foxconn 7900gs? Its $130 at Best buy, but I have a $50 gift card.

Otherwise, the store I use is ncix since I can avoid shipping w/in store pickup.
