I was watching Bill O'reilly and he has a segment called Watters World. Watters is a producer for O'reilly . Well, he interviews people on things like do you know what year the Declaration Of Independence was signed? Or What country did we fight in The Revolutionary War, etc. It's mind boggling how fucking stupid people are. Well they interviewed a real beach bum that lived in hawaii or California and dude was buying lobster with an EBT card. He was also on hannity and Hannity told him what if I can get you a job making x amount of dollars working as a truck driver in North Dakota and dude says no thanks. He has this band and he says he wants to get big or some shit.

There are real people out there taking advantage of the system.

The car registration thing sucks. I just got Texas Bronze Star plates. :(

On the upside, the no front license plate tax is only $70 in Hawaii, but $200 in Texas.

I just looked at my salary for what I do here vs. in Hawaii and it is substantially less for an even more senior position. Like almost $30k less which is crazy considering the higher COL I keep hearing about.

Yeah they pay less than the mainland outhere. Most junior developer jobs I see out here are 45-50k and are easily 60-70k in the Bay Area.

I've known three people who grew up in Hawaii, two of them in wealthy families, and they all vow that they'll never move back. Don't quite know why that is, but they hate the place. I get the feeling that the romantic view of places that are vacation "paradises" are held mostly by people who vacation there only occasionally.

I've heard the locals despise mainlanders, so that should be fun
Some do, Some don't.

I lived there from 1980 to 1984 so most things I know would take a book to write and might not be useful these days.

Had a lot of in laws that were Hawaiian up at North Shore at the time till the first wife ran off like an idgit 30 years ago, but won't bother going there. Japanese in laws actually also, her parents had both remarried.

You will see a lot of Japanese there, also.

Expensive place to live, more or less.

Cost of living is very high, I think I was paying slightly over $800 a month on a small apartment in Kailua back in 1982.

The tent thing used to be a deal quite a few did, my father in law at the time said they used to set up a surplus type MASH type army tent on the beach right on the other side of the high way, run electrical lines from the house under the drain and run a fridge and stereo etc on the beach and basically spend a lot of the time there, yeah.

Used to have a lot of fun lobster fishing, they would even take me out with them till we were married and I was family.
