Advice for mobo/cpu for gf.

well, it looks as though i may be building my gf a rig...which will undoubtedly be better than mine 🙁 (see link at bottom)
what should i get her on the lower end of average? i want something she'll think is fast, but not necessarily is 😉
looking at a 1gig tbird plus some kind of epox mobo...all she really wants to do is surf the web and watch dvds hehe can this be done for $1000 or less?

ssure, you could probably save a little money and get a duron, eh i say in ur case get an nforce, with onboard everything, for DVD get the Lite-On LTD-163 see review here .. eh and just stick with retail cpu/hsf , on the hd, save some money and get one of the single platter 20gb western digital's (unless you can find a better deal) , well hopes this helps a little .. good luck ..

Well I have put a few together with the MSI KM133APRO. It has everything on board except the modem. Slip in a duron 800 256megs of ram and put 32megs to the video card. about $170 for this 35 for a CD 9 for a floppy. The worst thing is paying $50.00 for a case. This is a good combo board, very stable and easy to get going.
If you want really cheap A Generic super7 MB from M-Tec for 38 bucks and a K62-500 for $30.00 128 megs of ram using 8 of that for video.
This board is also very stable but the sound drivers are a little problem to get going but for the money it makes a good internet machine.

well, i dont want the aboslute CHEAPEST, i want something that i can be proud of building, not some cheap POS 😛
besides, i might accidentily game on it for a few hours at a future date...sooooo......price vs. performance, when in doubt go for the lwoer price......suggestions/re-suggestions?

Prices are from Newegg. With shipping, the total would be about $1000. You would have to add an additional amount for an OS though or downgrade some of the parts. The Radeon 7500 has excellent 2d and DVD playback quality.
