Advice for Gigabit setup

I'm looking to get a router with a decent firmware (relatively customizable firewall, port forwarding, dhcp, etc...) that has a Gigabit switch and wireless N. I've been looking at a few but people seem to review them with faulty firmware, or horrible stability when using the gigabit switch or wireless N to do any sort of heavy transfers.

I'm looking to lower latency (do those "gaming" routers actually work??), and stable reliable hardware as a first priority.

Secondly, I'd like the direct link to be as close to gigabit as possible.

Lastly, I'd like the wireless N to be somewhat reliable as well.

I know it might not be possible to get all those things in one router but that's why I listed them in order.

Also, since we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a good 8-port stable under heavy load gigabit switch (to plug into the above router?)?

TIA
