Advice for buying a soccer-mom mobile!!

We're a family of 5 now and we've pretty much decided on getting a 1 to 3 year old Honda Odyssey to replace our aging 94 Nissan Quest, but won't rule out a new one if we can get below invoice. We've had good luck purchasing the Quest 4 years ago, but it literally fell in our lap from a friend of a friend. So now I seek the advice of the wise AT council 🙂

We have the loan but wondered
* What exactly can/do you ask the mechanic who inspects the car and how much should you pay? (previous thread for used audi's said $300)

* Is it harder to negotiate a price with a used car than a new one?

Thanks!

Well, what I would do since Odysseys are in great demand (at least here they are) is something I heard one of the sales mgrs mentioning the other day. Get a Certified pre-owned Odyssey. Sometimes, Honda will offer special financing on those Certified vehicles that is not available on new vehicles. Also, it will come with a 7-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 12-month, 12,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty (I am pretty sure on that last one, it might also be an extension of 12-months beyond the original factory warranty...check with your dealer).

And, there is usually more margin for negotiating in used vehicles, too.

Good luck!
