It wasn't on your list, but I love my Sony Trinitron CPD-G400. I think the current equivalent model is the G420. It's worth the extra $ for a good monitor -- you'll upgrade your cpu, hard drive, video card, whatever but a monitor is around for a long time.

Picking a monitor is very personal since image quality is subjective so you could get lots of different recommendations, then you`ve to take into account price, features, then type like shadow mask or AG(aperture Grill that have two visible damper wires on screen as used in Trinitron and Diamondtron tubes).

Anyway I do happen to own one of those on your list which is the LG 915FT Plus flatron and the main reason I chose that model was because the screen is dead flat screen ,no AG wires and can do 1600x1200 at 85Hz plus has 4 USB ports and BNC connectors, the image quality is excellent for graphics and colour, and text is good as well.

The best recommendation I can give you is try and see the monitors you`ve short listed with your own eyes and remember even the graphics card used with the monitors can make a difference to the image quality.

Btw welcome to AT forums.

;) Well for me (although I lack the cash to buy one personally) the Iiyama VMpro using the Diamond M2 Super Bright tube offers superb image quality and the high brightness mode not only gives games a perf free AA but also helps reduce MPEG artifacts and make TV & film seem a LOT more like a traditonal TV in terms of brightness and contrast. If money wasn't an object then this is where my money would go. I'd love to hear from somebody who actually owns one of these, I have read sveral reviews about these monitors and they seem to rock!

I am also looking for a new monitor - I don't mind paying top dollar because for me a monitor is the most critical PC component. Also, I can't find any really comprehensive reviews/comparisons on very high-end monitors. Does anyone have a solid recommendation?

Like a previous poster, I am interested in anyone's experience with the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 512.

I did look at the specs of the Iiyama Vision Master Pro 512 - they are great

2048x1536 @85Hz
22" TrueFlat CRT
0.24mm AG pitch
Speakers,USB hub
Bandwidth:390MHz (Highest I have seen)
Price < $700 (this is half if what I am willing to pay)

Thanks,
Paul

The best 19'' flat Crt Monitor I found after YEARS of research is the Cornerstone p1460. There's an anandtech member by the name of "gosharks" who works for Cornerstone. At first I was skeptical about purchasing a monitor I never heard about before, but the image quality is STABLE, FANTASTIC, and I get NO EYE STRAIN compared to other monitors. I capitalized those letters because it really is that good of a monitor.

Tom agrees with you. I love the Samsung 955DF as it can't be beat for the money. I have a Compaq P910 which has an outstanding picture. I got it at CDW, and you can get it's replacement, the P900 if you hurry for under $220 shipped. It uses a Sony tube instead of the Dynaflat like my P910, but the picture is just as super. See this thread for more info.

A guy I knew got a new job where they all had these. I went to work with him one time (to use some of their T3!). I was duly impressed, and he loved it.

Please consider the Cornerstone p1460. Once others catch on to this secret crt gem, others will surely follow.

Viewsonic P95F is an incredible 19" monitor, it's a very nice flat (but not as good flat as LCD off course..), perfect 1600x1200 res with 85 hz (the ideal res & freq for me), very solid for playing games, perfect for working with 2D & 3D design. With a little bit tweaking, it would be the best 19" monitor :)

Samsung 955DF is nice also, a good flat monitor with a rich color for a good price.

If you want a 17" flat monitor with a great picture & a very good price, I recommend Samsung 753DFX with 0.20 mm dot pitch (horizontal)

;) You may find this other AnAndTech Forum thread of use.

:) The Iiyama monitors I have heard fantastic things about are the ones sporting the M2 Tube. These tubes are not only give fantastic results but also offer a SuperBright mode which makes TV, DVD and movies look much better and also offers games a perf-free AA effect too. They are pricey, eg. the 17" is priced among 'standard' 19" monitors ($200ish) but if I had the cash (which I don't) this is what I'd go for. VM Pro 1413 (limited in max res) and VM Pro 413 are the 17" versions while VM Pro 454 is the 19" offering.

 The Viewsonic P95F seems to cost more than the much better (IMHO) Iiyama VM Pro 454 with not only great quality output but also the M2 SuperBright mode too.

Not much has changed for high end 19 monitors in last couple years, I have a Mitsubishi Diamond plus 91 with the Diamondtron tube that just has outstanding picture quality, looks as good if not better than the sonys in my opinion.

I am debating the:

Cornerstone 1460
Viewsonic GS790
Samsung 900NF (odd PCWorld says the 955DF scored better)
Samsung 957mb (does true 4:3 at 1920x1440, but I am not sure if the quality is as good as the NF, PCWorlds #1 pick in the November issue)
NEC FE955
Dell P991/P992
IBM P96/P97

I want to run at 1600x1200, maybe higher. I have a Radeon 8500. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 17GLsi and want something not much deeper than it (17.5 inches roughly), but equal or better image quality.

I would like to be less than $200 if possible (refurb w/ warranty is ok for me)

Thanks

I am yet another CRT seeker. But I want a 21" shadow mask tube (don't like the wires). They seem a bit few and far between. So far the Hitachi CM823F seems like a good idea. I have spent hours looking for review with not a lot of success. The few I have found seem to be concerned about sharpness being a bit weak on this monitor, but is is well rated otherwise.

Thoughts, reviews, suggestions?
