I am looking for recommendations on hardware that I should purchase such that I can connect my neighbor to my high-speed wireless internet. They live roughtly 600 ft away from me with two brick walls seperating the two computers. I was thinking one of the 802.11 Pre-N routers and cards would work best for me but I am not sure which one to get.

MIMO or any other 802.11x consumer?s Wireless hardware is not the issue.

You can Not Bridge 600? unless the two Directional Antennae looking ?eye? to ?eye? with clear line of sight.

Which means buying additional hardware to connected external (out of the House on the roof) directional Antennae.

Put your time and energy into getting line of site. If impossible then work on other solutions than wireless.

Not gonna work, thats twice as far as the practical limit of b/g products. I dont think pre-N is gonna cut it either.

I have direct line of sight with this house. We live across the street from each other but they live in a small cul de sac so it increases the range slightly. I can look out the window in my computer room (front of house) and see the entire front of their house. I was hoping that if I bought something like the Netgear Rangemax (MIMO) router and card with booster antenna, that I might get a decent signal at that range.

I doubt since the Radio in the MIMO is bellow 50mW.

Migh be that you would get away with one directional Antenna on the source placed in the Windows toward the second house.

What about something like this here.

I know that I would have to use something other than netgear because they do not have an external antenna port (7 internal antennas). Maybe go with D-Link or Linksys MIMO product with this device on one of the antennas.

The MIMO depends on special Antenna arrangements; it might not work well or not work at all with standard devices.

It is very hard to significantly boost long range of 2.4 GHz with Omni directional Antenna.

Expression like 600% are marketing Ploys since it imply like if you can reach 100? it might easily extend to 600?.

Instead of wasting your money on lame MIMO and boosters, buy two 802.11g Wireless Routers make sure that one of them can be fitted with external Antenna.

Place the Second Router in window facing your Friend place put a Directional Antenna on it, connect it to your main Router via CAT45e and configure it as an Access Point ( Using a Wireless Cable/DSL Router as a Switch with an Access Point ).

If your Friend gets the signal you are set other wise you need a similar arrangement on the other side using Group Bridge instead of the second Wireless Router (like the WET54) on the other side.
