Hey there,

Thought I`d post here as Anandtech and the forums around here are usually swarming with people who are quite up to date regarding hardware and software as well and they pretty much know what they are talking about :) .

So, I am planning on buying a CPU, Motherboard, Graphics Card and RAM.
I am a 3D Artist, working with programs like 3DSMax, Maya, Unreal Engine 4, ZBrush, Photoshop etc. My goal is to choose components that best serve my 3D work. This work is made up mostly by rendering calculations, working with scenes that handle a larger amount of texture data etc. I already have a pretty good SSD, so no need for that at the moment.
Also, I`d like to play games everyone and then, BUT by no means on 4K resolution.

Another important thing to mention is that I will be purchasing these components in the UK, so I`m looking at the best prices from http://www.pcpartpicker.co.uk

My budget is: 900-950 GPB = 1,350 - 1,400 $.

Here is what I have cooked up so far:

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K, Haswell-E, 6 Core, LGA 2011-3

Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI PLUS, Intel X99, S 2011-3, DDR4

Videocard: Asus STRIX GTX970 DirectCU II OC 4GB (Maxwell)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

Thanks very much!

Did you think about a real professional card? It will make your jobs in Maya a lot faster.

I wouldn't choose that board, but it's up to you..

Hey Burpo, thanks for the reply. Why wouldn't you choose this one? I chose it because it was one of the cheaper X99 boards as I don't want to spend a whole lot on a motherboard, but I would definitely want to hear your advice.

Thanks again.

Hey mrmt. Yes I did but I can't really afford one at the moment, so that would be a thing of the future I guess.

get 2x8GB RAM over 4x4GB any day

Thanks for the tip :) . I`m buying my ASUS GTX 970 card today... I had a GTX 460 which stopped working and then I switched back to my ancient 9600GT for 1-2 months. I think the performance increase is going to be .... subtle :D .

Except he wants to buy a 5820k. Using 2 sticks wouldn't saturate the 4 channel memory controller, effectively halving his memory bandwidth.

Go with 4x4 or 4x8. The rendering apps should love more RAM anyway.
