I just might get money for a laptop Christmas coming, but one of my main problems has been that manufacturers seem to think everyone wants a 750GB HDD ultrabook.

Only apple has sense and knows people want SSD instead.

Another problem is not everyone wants a core i5 in a ultrabook some just want one to surf the web. What a lot of people would like is to trade the core i5 for a core i3 and have an SSD instead and also have the laptop in aluminum.

I dunno but right now there seems to be a lack of 13.3 inch and 14" ultrabook laptops on the cheap side. I think because of this 13 inch size its expensive to control the heat. Maybe it would change with broadwell and we will see more 13.3 and 14 inch ultrabooks in the $500 range? acer has a pretty nice i3 ultrabook at 13 inch but they don't make them anymore its the S3, what you find on amazon is always refurbished S3 acers with intel HD 3000 i3 chips

the trend right now seems to be I think 15 inch laptops which I really hate.

I have no clue on what to recommend or what to get. I think in the next 3 weeks we will know far more about the christmas models.

Here is info on the acer switch 12. A very interesting concept.

No clue on pricing. But since it is using the cheaper Core M-5Y10a sku and has 60 to 128 gb ssd storage options with a 1920x1080 screen.

Do note that Acer in sept of 2014 announced the Switch 11 (they previously had a Switch 10) the switch 11 is a $400 to $700 sku. The cheaper $400 model is 1280x800 and atom baytrail while the $700 model is 1920x1200 and haswell y i5. The switch 11 is like the asus t100 but it looks far better with how it mounts and such.

hmm interesting but would much prefer a 13 incher regular lappie.

Macbook Air is a true beauty, just too much on the price I am afraid. Hopefully broadwell can give me something decent for $500 USD. The fanless concepts seem like a dream. I really love the Acer S3 aswell its $465 on Amazon and a true ultrabook without aluminum. I can live with that ultra thin and light. But don't wanna buy it too soon wanna see what broadwell brings cause HD 3000 seems kinda old
