Advice and suggestions for new PC build for a friend

I'm building a computer for a friend who doesn't want to spend too much cause that's just the type of person he is. We live in Vancouver, Canada btw.

I got an Asus/Pegatron IPMTB-TK mobo since it came in a nice package from a friend who was planning on building a monster from a prebuilt.

It's not a great mobo but since it can only use ddr3 ram to 1066MHz and it's limited PC slots but I managed to get an i7 920 with D0 stepping and a good heatsink with it for $280 and its pretty much brand new.

Already purchased a Antec 750W PSU when it was on sale earlier:

I was think of getting this ram since I thought it was a decent price and if he ever upgraded his mobo he could take full advantage of it.

I chose this because there aren't really any deals for 1066 ram and the only deals for 1333 ram I've seen are for OCZ which I've heard has gone downhill with their DDR3 ram. Plus it doesn't cost much more.

I was think of getting the Antec Sonata 3 case and we could keep the 500W PSU it comes with as a backup or just sell it but any suggestion for a good quiet case under $120 in Canada would be great.

Planning on getting a 5850 video card when we can get a good deal on one but in the meantime we'll be using his old video card.

Here's the sales page of the largest store in my area:

Thank you all

Welcome to AT 😀.

Personally, I'd go for G.Skill since I've had some really good experiences with them. OCZ has seriously gone downhill in quality. I've had and heard of too many DOA's. Corsair is always good, so between the G.Skill and Corsair, I'd just vote the cheaper option (since your mobo will only have it a 1066 anyways). If you want a good quiet case, the Antec P18x ones are all pretty nice. If you're gonna do some heavy overclocking though, you'd want a case with better airflow. The airflow through my modded Antec 900 is great, but you'd have to do some work with it. HAF932 isn't a bad case either or the CM 690 II. A 5850 would be awesome, but since you have a 1366 platform, consider two 5770's, unless you're going to do two 5850's in the future.
