I bought a 2001fp from a member in forsale/trade and it was brand new sealed. I requested them to test it for dead pixels/backlight problems and pressure points. They did and said that they didn't see any problems with it. I belived them and sent paypal for the item. Well when I recieved it I saw 4 dead pixels when using DPB on a black screen dead pixels were white. Pm'ed and said thanks for the monitor but there are 4 dead pixels but I still like it. and they reply that "damn really...I am color blind to reds and greens, and some blues...Sorry man. " What would you guys say to this I don't think its right if he did see the dead pixels to lie about them and if he didn't really test the monitor to lie about that either. What would you guys do? I'm a nice person and I don't want to leave negative feedback on heatware and ruin his reputation.

Seems like a decent guy, you are happy with monitor. Leave good feedback if he treated you well.

Hmm, that's pretty tough. The pixel is WHITE, not blues or reds or greens. If I were the seller I would PP some money back to you for your trouble (if you would want that).

4 pixels isnt going to really kill you... It also might be that he isnt lying, and that it did that on the way to your house. You can't really tell. It isn't major enough to warrant that though...

AND BTW, this should be in fs/ft forums ;)

I would suggest if they are a good bloke they'll send you a bit of cash for that...

He did you favor by trying to check (as soon as he opened it he couldn't sell it as unopened), no need to screw him on the deal.

Plus if they're stuck on there's a fair chance they'll go away.

if you asked about dead pixels and he said he tested it and there were none ... he lied.

colorblind ppl can see white, right? so he either lied about testing it or he lied about the dead pixels. either way, you asked first, it was not like something that was not questioned. if you did not ask, you would be SOL, but you did ask.

if you dont mind 4 dead pixels, then keep the monitor... if they bother you, then either return it or get a partial refund... after all you paid for a monitor with NO dead pixels.

yea, thanks for the advice guys maybe hes got thick glasses and can't see well who knows right? If they were stuck wouldn't they be another color other then white? They don't bother me much and I don't think its worth paying the shipping back to him or dell for a refund/replacement but its just the honesty that bothers/gets me.

He obviously didn't use a proper monitor utility for checking for dead pixels, his colorblindness wasn't the problem. It was an honest mistake imo.

Agreed.

I would have never done that, would have shipped it brand new sealed.

gregtor - You do know that Dell LCD's warranty is NOT TRANSFERRABLE, right?

Dell won't cover it?

Not when it was illegally resold by a third party.

Illegally? This isn't a police state where Dell corporation writes the laws buddy. The warranty may be non-transferable but there is NOTHING illegal about reselling any product you own.

Exactly, he probably had it sitting on the desktop and just looked really closely at it, I probably would've done the same thing. If you're happy with it then there's no problem, if you don't like it then tell him/her you want your money back and send it back to him.

If it was me, I would probably kick myself for not absolutely stressing to use DPB and to double check for no dead/stuck pixels. If you don't want to keep the monitor, send it back and eat your shipping cost - or maybe have him refund you a few bucks.

I've sold a couple monitors, and agree with only selling them as new, open box. Working with Dell to get replacements that have 100% working pixels is TOUGH!
