I gotta tell ya when I am surfing a website and I see advertisements for free downloads that are known spyware/adware and the websites justify inflicting people with those advertisements by saying it pays thier bills..it just really makes me want to get up on my soapbox.

Especially when you read so many posts about people wondering how they got the crap on thier systems and how do I get rid of it....your thoughts??:disgust:

Spyware writers all deserve to be spit-roasted.

Case in point: brand new machine, brought back to me after four hours because it was infested with spyware. Already. Several trojans, toolbars, porn diallers....

Gah.

How about legislation that fines or jails companies that use it?

The difficulty is defining what spyware is. Spyware doesn't do anything malicious, per se, unlike viruses and worms. It uses resources (which can lead to system instability), but it doesn't corrupt or delete data. It's difficult to remove and installs "secretly", but the same can be said for many legitimate programs as well.

well this is the front we are now on for spam and for virus writers, although very few have been prosecuted yet, can malware, adware, spyware be far behind.
