Yeah, but you gotta figure the majority of people who post ratings will be giving negitive feedback. Its not as big of a priority to post positive feedback like it is to post negitive feedback when you just got screwed.

eh, just $0.02

it does me no good to have 8x -r as their is no media that for that speed. 4x is plenty fast.
+R media is costly, in the future I may buy it heh.. chances are, you are more likely to end up with artec which is 10 bucks more, better imho :)

Writing Speed:

Writing 8X 4X 4X 2X 40X 24X 24X

Read Speed:

Media DVD-ROM CD-R HD-BURN
Reading 12X 40X 78X

It is able to burn cdr at 1.4gb lol but is only readable on dvd drive.

You should be able to up the firmware (if this is the DD0401) to get higher writing speeds as follows:

8x dvd+r
8x dvd-r
4x dvd+rw
4x dvd-rw
Writing Speed:

which may make this hotter.

Why not buy the DD0405 retail pkg. @ Newegg for $70 shipped. It includes both beige and black faceplates. It can write at; 8X DVD+R, 8X DVD-R, 4X DVD+RW, 4X DVD-RW, 40X CD-R, 24X CD-RW. Also, like it's 401 brother it employs Sanyo's HD burn technology that allows the drive to burn 1.4GB of data onto a standard 80 minute disc that is normally only 700MB in size.

Hmm, I am building my next system with an antec overture(plastic painted silver front)and would prefer just to buy a silver drive to put in it rather then paint one(well actually I would prefer a stealth mod with the drive bay cover, but don't think this will work) SOmeone on another forum mentioned he got an artec standard DVD drive that match perfectly, wonder if these do?

The current low price on Pricewatch.com for the OptoRite DD0405 8x/8x drive is $78.00 retail or $69.94 for OEM, shipped

You can get a Artec (VOM-12E48X) 12x/8x DVD±R/RW Drive for $100 retail shipped LIKK

Be wary of us-depot shady business practice, just out to screw everyone... won't be buying anything from merchants that has lower then rating of 7 on resellerratings ever again. last, I apologize to those who try to warn me about their shady way because I didn't take it as a hint of not to buy from.

It says on the page you have linked that its a "Optorite/Artec DVD±RW 8X ReWritable Beige/Black/Silver bulk" , have you tried to flash the Artec with the Optorite 405 firmware? the Artec might be a rebadged Optorite 405 8x/8x drive

FYI, Newegg has 8x -r Ritek media for under $1 per disc. Also, the NEC 2500A is only $67.99.

The warning message about them soliciting/spamming their customer are no longer there because they paid resellerratings to have it removed plus can now screen any review as well, so any negative will no longer be posted. Is this how they stay in business??? it's just so ultra gay...

I think it's just that other retailers see shops like Newegg, ZZZ, etc, and want to be as successful as them. And by all means they certainly have the potential to. But they don't want to spend the time building the reputations others have. They just expect it to come to them if they sell a few items for cheap now and then.

Problem for them is, all of the people like us, are not only cheap, but we also expect a high level of service to come with it. And when we don't get it....look out!

If it's the Optorite you want, why not buy the DD1203 12X burner for as little as $86, the lowest price currently listed on PriceWatch. NewEgg had this drive for $89 and now it is $99.

Wow.

You should follow the "guidelines" and file a complaint with the Nevada BBB, Nevada Consumers Division, and the Nevada Attorney General's office since they are a Las Vegas, Nevada based company.

Here are the links:

Nevada Consumer Affairs Division (Link to Complaint form)

Link to NV Attorney General

Dont forget to see if you can get a chargeback on your credit card.

Companies can/might have their merchant accounts revoked if they receive too many chargebacks.
