For those, like myself, who now have Frontier DSL service and are having problems connecting to any google website you do not have a browser redirect/hijack virus.

If I try to connect to any google website with different browsers, on all of my computers, the following message comes up:
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.google.com/
The following error was encountered: Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.google.com
The dnsserver returned: Timeout
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.
Your cache administrator is root. phishing-warning-site.com

Frontier's has stated that there is a problem with Google's DNS servers. They suggest to specify the www.google.com DNS servers as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
This is total BS. Why should I have to specify which DNS servers to use?

There's no problem with Google's DNS servers, the problem is with Frontier. I connected to an unsecured wireless cable router in my neighborhood and had no problems connecting to Google. Yes, I have spoken to my neighbor about his unsecure network.

Until Frontier fixes this try flushing your DNS resolver cache. Open a command window and type ipconfig /flushdns Do this with every computer on your network, I have 4. This worked for me.

To make sure it was a Frontier problem, I also checked the C>Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Open it with Notepad, besides some text there should only be:
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

I also ran HijackThis and Malawarebytes Anti-malware scans. No problems.

Thank You Frontier!!!

I've had boat loads of issues with Comcast DNS for a while and I gave up. Now I use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for about 2 months now. No problems since then. What's your issue? Just put those in your router and forget about it.
