Adventure games?

The other day I downloaded DOSBox and got Quest for Glory IV going again after all these years.
Due to a problem with QFG/DOS back in the day kI never finnished it, so Im going to give it another go :)

But I got me thinking, I haven't seen any adventure games of this caliber in like a decade.
Back in the day good(heck, Great) adventure games were everywhere, the Quest games, Sam&Max, Day of the tentacle, Beneath a Steel Sky, and so forth, they were plentiful to say the least.

Are there any good "traditional" adventure games anymore?

I don't know if this is exactly what you're looking for, but I recommend the Dungeon Master series. The first two games have been ported to Windows and are both part of the CSBWin package, and Dungeon Master 2 works well with the latest DosBox (and remains my favorite game after more than a decade).

I like those old Infocom games and the Sierra games (those before it was point and click). Guess I should dig out my old 5 1/4 inch floppies and transfer them to CD. Wish I could remember how to remove that check for floppy crap the infocom games used.

The Dig (LucasArts) is also a great game I just recently picked up. It's pretty rare but you can probably find it off ebay... and I'd say any of the LucasArts adventure games are great, in general. :)

One of the first computer games that I played extensively was Return to Zork. It came with the 2X CD-ROM I got for Christmas one year, and I had to get a walkthrough book to figure out how to get past some of the puzzles.

In true Zork fashion, RTZ had a few puzzles that no sane person could ever figure out on their own short of just blindly trying anything and everything.

The whole process of feeding the carrots to the cow, figuring out how to milk the cow, and then drinking the milk when in the forest? :confused:

Was still a great game though. My brother and I still quote from it occasionally.

Yea, I love the traditional adventure (Zelda is not a traditional adventure or even an adventure...its more of an RPG). Anyways, try these games:

-= Black Mirror (excellent game!)
-= Syberia 1 and 2
-= URU (Fantastic GFX w/solid gameplay)


Not traditional but good Adventure games:

-= Beyond Good and Evil
-= Silent Hill 3 (pretty freaky game)

I have The Dig, great game.
Actually I have most of the old time classics, which is why I was wondering if there are any new games out there.

Lucas Arts is not helping the adventure game drought. They keep canning all the games people are waiting for. RIP Sam&Max 2. RIP Full Throttle 2.

Yes! I think there is a pretty big untapped market for those old adventure games, and they have a lot of recognizable licenses that they could really build onto - Indiana Jones, Loom, Full Throttle, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango.

At least the remake of Sid Maier's Pirates! hasn't yet been scrapped...

Police quest 1 is great but 2 is not too bad...3 and 4 are only so so...
a good adventure game by the name of Freddy Pharkus was a great game...although point and click still a great game.

The Longest Journey is one of the better ones... graphics are a little dated, but if you're playing DOS games, you probably don't care that much. Syberia 1/2 are decent, but much too short, and puzzles are either too easy or too hard. And the story just didn't catch me as much as TLJ did. But the graphics are prettier than TLJ.

Silent Hill III was damn good. And graphics was just awesome. I've never played I or II, since i never owned a Playstation. There's a bit more fighting involved, but most of the fighting isn't necessary, especially if you turn down the combat mode.

The adventure game for the PC is dead right now.

The leader of the adventure game was Lucasarts and they basically abandoned the genre by cancelling Full Throttle 2 and Sam & Max.

However a new Leisure Suit larry game is coming out.

I was just coming in to say you could download those games for free. I have the three Zorks and Classic Adventure on my PC.
