Any games like syberia 1 and 2? I know 3 is coming this year. I have brothers and I like it a lot. Looking for some more.

I hear ether one is good too but it looks like mostly walking around. Something story driven would be good.

I know there are a bunch of older games where graphics are pretty bad but anything sort of recent by a couple of years at least?

Longest Journey and sequel Dreamfall Two of the best PC games ever in that genre Graphics aren't bad, but might need to find workaround if playing on Win 7,8 64 bit They are available on Steam
However, not recent, but well worth it if you can get them to play

I believe both of those are available on GOG, so I would expect Win 7 to be okay at least - no idea how 8 is puttering along for these.

Longest Journey is the first game in the series, Longest Journey Dreamfall is the second...should play Longest Journey first
Also, I like the Myst series (on GOG) but I guess that's a matter of taste...some love them, some hate them
I loved Syberia one and two...music was great

Yea myst didn't really do much for me. I like puzzles but it was a bit too vast and at times it was just a lot of walking around and I felt like there wasn't much of a goal that I'm playing towards or some objective of some sort.

Dreamfall Chapters is scheduled for later this year.

Broken Sword: Director's Cut and Broken Sword 2 - the Smoking Mirror: Remastered if you haven't played the originals.

Check out The Cat Lady too.

Had my eyes on Memoria and Lost Horizon for a while, they are supposed to be decent.

Some of the Wadjet Eye games on GOG are pretty good, although they do follow the style of the mid-90s adventure games to the letter, even the pixellated graphics. Primordia is excellent and easily the best of them, and Resonance is pretty good as well.

Yea I'll check out resonance. The cat lady looked a little interesting. I'm going to watch a lets play of it. I also looked at gone home but it just didn't seem like it had any adventure actions. All walking and reading I suppose.

Definitely go back to the old Lucas Arts games, like Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Return to Atlantis, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango

Most of them run through this emulator on new computers:
http://scummvm.org/

I played a lot of the horror themed adventure games, could recommend some, like Still Life, Scratches, Black Mirror. The whole adventure game genre was never very popular, and especially in recent years all of the new titles are from small budget indie developers. So just don't expect to be wowed with graphics like the big blockbuster titles have :)

Like mentioned earlier, the Broken Sword series was very well done, I think they have five or six games in the series now.

I've heard broken sword 3 and 4 are good. There is a game I found out about called Amy too. It's more of a horror adventure but the lets play videos made it look kind of cool. Will take a look at the monkey island games too.

+1 for The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav. Very beautiful hand drawn art in a fairytale adventure with some interesting puzzle play.

If you're talking about recently made games in the "old school" point & click style, I enjoyed the Blackwell Quintology (Legacy, Unbound, Convergence, Deception & Epiphany). The creator (Dave Gilbert) is an incredibly nice guy who used to chat with fans of the game throughout development about direction of the series. (Can you imagine Ubisoft / EA telling fans "Charging you guys more is not something I'd want to do..."). How all Indie devs should be.

There's also The Inner World which was both charming & amusing. All above mentioned games typically averaged 80-85 user score on metacritic, which speaks for itself.

Then there's older ones : Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight, and a ton of ScummVM games, which when you set ScummVM to use "HQ3x" (high quality upscaling), actually look nowhere near as bad for their age as other early 1990's games at native 320x240. A lot of these games really aren't meant to look photo-realistic anyway due to their art-style.

And then there's the AGS (Adventure Games Studio's) based games, which are more "community" made and rough round the edges, but there's a few gems in there.

Benoît Sokal who created the Syberia games also made one under his own label called Paradise. My wife loved the Syberia games, but didn't much enjoy Paradise so YMMV.

Not a big fan of the old style ones. I did check out lost horizon and that looked nice. It's hard to find these type of games where the graphics aren't completely bad. Grey matter also looked intriguing.

Gray Matter is quite good and definitely worth checking out, although the ending is kind of rushed. Another one I would recommend is Mission Critical, which still remains my favorite adventure game. It needs Dosbox but is a first-person game with prerendered graphics, and looks much better than other games of that era.

I think others have mentioned most of the other good stuff. The Lucasarts games are all generally excellent, as is the first Longest Journey. The Broken Sword games are good and worth playing if you're into adventure games, but aren't quite in the same league IMO.

There was a game called Amy. I think it got cancelled because I could not find anything on it. There are some YouTube videos of it though. I think I'll get grey matter. Indigo prophecy was a great game too. I played that a long time ago. Another good one I remember is in cold blood.

Grey Matter requires a beast of a cpu to run smoothly. I have an Athlon X3 @ 3.0ghz and the game is unplayable, doesn't matter how much I turn down the graphic settings, game runs on only 1 of the 3 cores and maxes it out @ 100% usage. As far as I could tell the game was properly configured for hardware accelerated graphics, I have a Radeon HD 4670, above the recommended hardware for the game.

If you're into the horror themed games, for sure pick up the game Scratches. (this is not a spoiler) Early on in the game is an extremely boring and difficult task to complete - open and search every single cabinet and drawer in the house before you can continue - just suffer through that task, the remainder of the game is more than well worth it.

My cpu should be good enough I think but I guess I'll find out. Would you say scratches is as tense as outlast?

I did pick up Lost Horizon. Graphics are very tolerable but it won't run in 1920x1080 even if I choose that and full screen plus wide screen in the configuration app before it is launched.

It has black bars on the side. But that's the type of game more so I'm looking for to play. Decent story, and it has some cool events and puzzles to go through while you progress through the story.

Love puzzle games so much, Syberia is on my list to play.

The old ones really are the greats, there's an entire series of Monkey Island to play through, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Sam and Max. More recently on the SCUMM engine I played Resonance which I thought was really quite good, the same studio made another couple like this which I've not played yet but are on my list to play The Shivah and The Blackwell Legacy.

Another good game I played recently was Deponia and bought the first sequel Chaos on Deponia, there's also a 3rd, the 2d art is really beautiful, reminds me of the higher resolution The Curse of Monkey Island when the graphics took a jump to more intricate yet still cartoony graphics.

The entire Broken sword series is really good, there was another one made recently which I finished not long ago and really enjoyed.

The entire Leisure Suit Larry series is really good, I think Love for sail was my fave, again had the right style of cartoon graphics but in a much higher resolution that previous SCUMM engine titles.

Pendulo studios also make some pretty good puzzle games among them the Runaway series (A Road Adventure, A Twist of Fate, The Dream of the Turtle) as well as couple of others one called Yesterday and another called The Next Big Thing - some of these have free demos on steam.

Also from memory there was a Discworld puzzle adventure game or 2 which I thought were really decent.

More recently I kickstarted Broken Age which is fairly good, has it's own weird style but I enjoyed it.

hmmm what else.

Going through my steam list I thought Still Life and Still Life 2 were both good murder mystery puzzle adventures.

I have Post Mortem still to play.

Oh and Machinarium is quite cute but a tough puzzle adventure game, one of the more difficult ones in recent memory, good for advanced players I'd say.

I personally found Dreamfall and The longest Journey a bit boring/frustrating :s

Oh god How can I forget Braid god damn, this is a really amazing puzzle game not so much adventure but has some of the best time based puzzles you can find.

That'll do for now xD

You should definitely play syberia 1 and 2. I wish there were more games like that.

For the runaway series are the previous games required? I see that there was one last made in 2011.

Oh, your system is in your signature. When I was seeking out help with Gray Matter, a lot of people had the same stuttering issues, but those with a core i3 & above cpu said they were able to play it smoothly.

I've never played Outlast, don't know how to compare, but will check it out. What I can say is Scratches has the richest atmosphere and the most tense game I've ever played.

Outlast is a first person horror and adventure game. You are a reporter going through a government closed asylum. You have no weapons just a camcorder you use to see in the dark and your goal is to get out while various things try and stop you. It is one of the scariest games I have played.

The atmosphere and tension the game creates is insane. The fact that you can't use any weapons is worse all you can do is hide.

I'm going to try scratches and I will also pick up the runaway but I'm not sure which one to go with, the 2011 game or the first two.

That sounds intense. Best horror fighting games I played were Condemned, the first two Silent Hill games, and of course the Resident Evil series. Games often talked in comparison with Scratches are Barrow Hill & Dark Fall.

Then there is an amazing game called Eternal Darkness put out on the Gamecube.

I'm just listing off all the older games, just don't seem to have the time anymore to get into the new stuff :(
