I'm trying to decide whether to get a P4 or an AMD XP. I was wondering if there are any specific advantages of one over the other. For example, I have heard that the P4 with new MB's boot much more quickly (It may just be an Intel chipset thing)...is this true? Also, is SSE2 taken advantage of by many programs or games? If neither of these are significant issues, I would probably choose the AMD for the better price/ performance ratio. Thanks for any info...

Don't make me slap you.

Seriously though, how much of a determining factor is boot time? I would be more concerned about the price, performance and feature list of any product you are buying. For the most part, the P4 2Ghz and the Athlon 1800+ perform about the same, but the second one is about half the price. There are only a few programs with SSE2, but more will be in the offing before too long.

Oh yeah, Welcome to Anandtech! :D

Max Payne most definitely is not SSE2 optimized. It may well contain SSE optimizations, but there isnt a chance in hell it's SSE2 optimized.
