I have W98se running on my system will few problems. On a day to day basic, what advanges do ME or W2k have over W98se? I use my computer for games, internet and office, nothing too spectacular.

Advantage of win2k over win9x? almost everything! :)

Win2k is based on NT kernel instead of win9x kernel... so that means it's a completely different OS than win9x... It's very stable... I have been running win2k for 5 months and I have no experience 1 BSOD...

Win2k also manages memory much better than win9x... resources used by your program actually gets free and put back!

Win2k supports dual-processors, and can use memory much more effectively...

Only disadvantage is win2k does not support older games... but most new games support win2k anyways... so if you aren't too keen on gaming, you should try out win2k...

However win2k does have a higher minimum memory requirement...

If you are going to look at upgrading to any of the newer versions of Windows, I would upgrade to Windows 2000. It is faster, more reliable, and is compatible with most games out there on the market. Actually, I have not seen a game that I have that will not work under Windows 2000.

As with ME, don't even look at it. It will burn a hole into your retina's. It is as worthless as an old nail. Actually, an old nail is worth more. But that is just my opinion.

But on a more serious note, Windows 2000 is alot more stable than Windows 98 will ever be. I have had numerous computers with Windows 98 SE installed (and all service patches installed) that would crash a lot. I then upgraded them to Windows 2000, and there problems went away. Now, it is not to say that you will experience exactly what I have.

Check out the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer from Microsoft's Windows 2000 page, or download it hereDownload the Windows 2000 Readiness Analyzer

Win ME is garbage...
It takes Win98 and tries to give it a Win2k look at feel..but without any of the good code in Win2k it rather sucks. It also removes a good deal of systems control, and gvies you all kinds of worthless sh!t like WMP7 and System restore.

Win2k on the other hand takes all the stablitiy and power of Windows and adds directX so most games work on it. Along with NTFS5.0 which has some cool features (that you probably don't care about for what you do :)) it makes a sweet package.
The only downside to win2k is it's amemory hog. But it has execellent memory management (compared to Win9x/ME), it's good for speed as long as you have enough RAM, it's MUCH harder to crash..these are all just features of NT...but with 2k you get the kick a$$ bonus of directX and games.

Win2k ROCKS..I'm putting it on my system this weekend ;)
WinME on the other hand blows...WinME is the biggest non-upgrade in windows 9x history..Win95 to 98 had a few useful code changes underneath...and 98 to 98SE had great stability improvements...ME just dumbs down 98SE and makes it more bloaty and harder to control
I honestly think Win95 OSR2.1 to 2.5 was more worthy of the name upgrade than Win98Se to WinME ;)
