Advantages of Dual GPU Card vs SLI?

Hey guys, I'm still on the ball about which video card to get, my motherboard came in stock today and I managed to get it a minute before it sold out. I'm all set on everything except for my GPU.

What are the advantages of getting a nVIDIA GTX 590 vs 2 nVIDIA GTX 580s vs a Single GTX 580? What are the disadvantages? I had decided to run GTX 580s on SLI, but with the 590 confirmed for the 24th, I'm still unsure... Not only that but I heard that a 3GB GTX 580 was also being released by EVGA.

I plan to run my games at 1920 x 1080 on a 120hz Monitor, what would be my best choice for the best quality?

I've owned 9800GX2 and 4870X2, and the ONLY advantage I can out forth to you is if you want three GPUS but only have room for TWO physical cards.... I did 4870X2 + 48701GB and it was a blast.

Other than that, if you have room for two cards and dont want 3 or more gpu's then go SLI/CF because the cards will run cooler and be able to OC better.

From what I've seen, a single slot limits the power draw, so in fact the power draw is better with Dual GPU vs SLI/XFire. The idle power draw also looks a bit lower with dual GPU vs SLI/Xfire.

On the other hand, noise level of dual gpu is atrocious compared to sli/xfire.

Just wanted to make sure you had it covered!

Your best bet is check out the reviews of the 590 tomorrow if your contemplating on purchasing one. I'd image all three of your choices would be included in those benchmarks.

You can use a 590 on AMD, you can't officially do 580 SLI on AMD.
