The iPhone 5S is rumored to include the brand new A7 processor which has been hinted at being 64-bit. What advantages does a 64-bit processor have over the last generations (presumably) 32-bit processor?

Does this mean that the 5S can utilize more RAM then the 5? Just as a 64-bit operating system can versus a 32-bit operating system?

Any explanations, links, and info is greatly appreciated! Thanks. :)

More memory space? Faster large int operations? Maybe more GPRs (like those added in x86_64)? New instructions?

I haven't heard or read about this news. The interesting part would be the total package instead of the big headline of "64-bit!!!!"

The advantages are basically in what functions the the operating system can complete faster using 64-bit extensions. Faster execution = more idle time = longer battery life.

That's it. There's nothing else.

Primary benefit I would imagine is being able to address more RAM. I think the 32 bit processors are mostly limited to 2GB per process.

Actually, the 5S is still likely to only have 1 GB of ram and that the point is to increase the memory bandwidth.
