Advantages/Disadvantages of using a "Passenger Car" tire on a SUV?

The tires on my Jeep are in bad shape right now, one of them has a slow leak and all of them are dry rotted, old, and out of round.
I want to replace them, but I don't want to spend a ton of money on it as I will probably be replacing it with something newer in 4-6 months.
The least expensive tires in it's size (P215/75R-15) are noted as passenger car tires, the "light truck" tires are more expensive.
Is there any real advantages or disadvantages to using a light truck tire over the passenger car designed ones?

The passenger car tire are for lighter vehicles. You need to buy the tire that fits your application. You may even have trouble finding a tire shop willing to put a passenger car tire on your Jeep.

No there should not be a issue. Truck tires are usually higher rated for weight and maybe have a different tread design. P tires are usually softer side walls and lowwer weight ability.

That and car tire treads aren't as aggressive usually, so if you don't off road or tow I'd do it

Fun Fact:
My Dakota came with P tires. And it's a heavier vehicle and definitely more truck like than a Cherokee. My parents ran P tires on theirs without any issue whatsoever. You can also look up the load ratings of the tires you want to get to be sure.

which makes me think that most of the people using their F250s for, you know, how they're intended (getting from their ranch style house on 1/4 acre to their job herding cats in a mid-rise office tower), really need LT rated tires.
