Advance Wars online?

I've always enjoyed Advance Wars, great strategic games (started on the Gameboy advance). But I've never been able to play it with other people, and computers play like idiots most of the time. Since the game has been out for a long time I figure there's some sort of way to play it online with others? After investigating GBA emulation...apparently internet speeds aren't fast enough to handle GBA emulation online (this doesn't make sense to me...but it seems to be the case). Sooo...are there any clones of Advance Wars games you can play against others online? I'd really much rather play the original against others, but I guess it's not going to happen. Me and a friend tried to play it online (using the VBAlink emulator) and it ran at 20% speed, much too slow, even for a turn based game.

There's an advance wars by email thats pretty fun.... not real time but still, its fun.

kinda surprised there's no clones out or anything. It's a real popular series and has been out for a long time.
