I have two file server at my home one is in full tower case the other one is a mid tower. After doing much data pushing around. I can tell the full tower case runs lot cooler and quiter.
Of course the down side the full tower system is not very good for moving around. But that is ok I it never moves anyway with out that system tv all three of them will not work actual the entire network will not work. Also have no printer service either. All my documents are on it with all my media. Figure this out today after doing some internal data moving aorund in both system. Well acutal was temporaroy back data up from the mdtower system to full tower system. The full tower system after 2 hours the hd temps went up 4 degrees. Still was handling over thing nicely. The mid tower had jumped 12 degrees and data transfer was 45% from general max tranfer rate which is 120 MB/s from raid to single drive. Of course the full tower has 5 case fans one pci slot fan. I can actual run 6 but then sound level rasies and actual don't get much difference in coolling. For the record the full tower runs 6 hard drives. mid tower runs 4 (full towers old hds)

full towers naturally have more volume in the interior which means theres more air to be heated up till it starts to affect your cpu/gpu/hdd temps.
relative to a midtower, which has less volume, which will heat up faster compared to the full tower
keeping air-circulation constant in both cases.

full towers also allow for more space to hide wires that'll block airflow in smaller cases.
