ahem here is Day 1

I mentioned that in day 1, we pretty much crashed into bed after our long day of activities. Well we where suppose to be heading over to my uncles house just north of Bangkok in the morning. My girlfriend wanted to leave early so she set the alarm for 3 AM. We crashed into bed around 11 PM. So 5 hours sleep is not to bad. Anyways, we go to sleep to be rudely awakened by the alarm clock at 1 AM. I didn?t look at time the first time I hit snooze. Well alarm went off again and I looked at clock, just past 1 am. Arrgghhh!! Wtf!? The alarm was 2 hours early and I felt like crap from only 2 hours sleep. So we set it for 4 am this time and head back to sleep. Buzz buzz buzz! DOH! Not again, stupid alarm now goes off at 3 am. Go figure, well we are kind of awake now so we decide to just get up and go shower and change.

After we get ready we have my cousin take us to the bus station. Since we could not find a taxi running at 4 am in the morning. We catch the bus to near my uncles house and take a taxi to get there. We arrive about 5:30 am and ring the doorbell. Fortunately my aunt is awake getting ready for work. We go inside and crash again for some more sleep. Wake up about 8 am and go bother my other cousin there. I meet some of his friends and his girlfriend. She will take the three of us to the consular office in Bangkok and she will head of to her office. So we leave around 9 or so and get dropped off. My cousin will stick around with us while to help out if needed. Well we go inside the consular office and head to the 3rd floor. Turns out I need a copy of my passport so I run downstairs and make a copy. Go back upstairs and show them it. Now I can draw a number for which we wait about 10 minutes for our number to be called. Before I got called I off course had some more paper work to fill out.

My numbered is called and I head to the window with my cousin, while my girlfriend stays seated. My cousin who is fluent in Thai and English speaks with them
Apparently it takes two business days to paper work processed. The problem is that the office will close the day after that day for the long holiday. So my cousin explains to them I am leaving on the first. They ask to see my plane ticket with I happen to have on me thank god. So they have me go make a copy of my plane ticket to give to them. I return with the copy and they said it would take a good 2 hours to complete. Cool I think so now we need to kill 2 hours. So we head outside and catch a taxi to a nearby mall for some shopping. Well apparently this mall was once a big time shopping place is now nothing more then a few stores left. This was off course to my cousin?s surprise to what ahs happen to this mall. But then again last time he was there was 6 years ago before he went to the US. So anyways we leave that mall and kind of walk down the street and decide to catch a bus to anywhere. Hell we did not know where it went or where we wanted to get off. But we got on and head down the street a bit and ended up getting off at a lotus super center. This place is like a super Wal-Mart. So that is where my girlfriend and I do some shopping. We ended up spending a little less then $50 bucks. Pretty good considering we had got each 2 shirts, pants, underwear and belt for me, and a bra and panties for her, plus a 6 pack of energizer batteries.

Well with shopping now completed and the 2 hour time limit is now almost over we catch yet another taxi outside the lotus center and head back to the consular office. We head to the third floor and low and behold our documents are done! YEAH! So we now have on last stop left to go, the Lumphar?s office for the marriage license.

We get there and talk to lady who informs us we need to get one more witness for the signing of the marriage license. DOH! I didn?t think about that, so we get my cousin?s girlfriend to show up and proceed with the paper work. I present my affidavit, the translated version, and the ok from the consular office, and off course more fees. It seemed like I had to do all the paper work. Well after about 2 hours off filling out papers for the both of us, and answering questions we finally receive our marriage license! Yeah!!

Does happy dance

We are finally pronounced man and wife. We later go out that night together to celebrate, which is part of the reason why we went shopping for clothing. And off course we stayed the night in the hotel to celebrate ;)

Needless to say I did not sleep much that night, but what sleep we did get was great.

through out all this I manage to take
7 taxis
4 buses
1 electric train
3 motor cycle trips
and down a couple of alcohalic beverages when it was all said and done with. :)

Damn I miss my wife. It will be 6+ months before I get to see her again. INS process is slow.

It wasn't extremely romantic, it was a lot of work to do. But it is something we wanted to do before our wedding date later on this year. I promise to make this up for sure. I am planning on doing a cruise for honeymoon. An alaskan cruise sounds like fun to me.

So your officially married now?. I thought the INS would allow you to bring your wife with you over here while you waited for the forms to be processed. They don't like doing it but they will :)

You have six months of freedom left. After that, you will beaten down into submission and your life will cease to be your own. Enjoy it while it lasts. ;)

Eddie, what have you done for me lately? - RAW

From INS

How Do I Bring My Spouse to Live in the United States?

Background
Your spouse must go through a three-step process to become authorized to live and work in the United States. First, the Immigration and Naturalization Service must approve an immigrant petition (application), Form I-130 Petition for Alien Relative, that you file for your spouse. Second, the State Department must give your spouse an immigrant visa number, even if your spouse is already in the United States. Third, if your spouse is already in the United States, your spouse may apply to adjust to permanent resident status. If your spouse is outside the United States, your spouse will be notified to go to the local U.S. consulate to complete the processing for an immigrant visa.

If you are a U.S. citizen, your spouse is considered an "immediate relative" and will need to apply for an immigrant visa. In order to receive an immigrant visa your relationship with your spouse must be established and your spouse must be admissible to the United States under the immigration law. You must file a Form I-130 Petition for Alien Relative on your spouse's behalf. Your spouse may file a Form I-485 Application for Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident at the same time.

For an excellent overview of immigration, please see the chapter and tables on immigrants in the INS Statistical Yearbook . For more information on visa numbers, please see How Do I Get an Immigrant Visa Number?. For more information on adjusting to permanent resident
status, please see How Do I Become a Legal Permanent Resident while in the United States?

If you have been married less than two years when your spouse is approved for permanent residence, your spouse will receive conditional permanent resident status. You and your spouse must apply together to remove the conditions on residence. For more information, please see How Do I Remove the Conditions on My Permanent Residence Based on Marriage?.

If you are a refugee or aslyee, please see How Do I Get My Children or Spouse Derivative Refugee Status? or How Do I Get My Children or Spouse Derivative Asylee Status?.

What Does the Law Say?
The Immigration and Nationality Act is a law that governs the admission of all immigrants to the United States. For the part of the law concerning immigrant status for spouses, please see INA § 201 , INA § 203 and INA § 204 . The specific eligibility requirements and
procedures for petitioning for immigrant status and applying for permanent residence are included in the Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] at 8 CFR § 204.1 and 8 CFR § 204.2 and 8 CFR § 245.

Who is Eligible?
A U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident may apply to bring a husband or wife to live and work permanently in the United States. If you are a lawful permanent resident your spouse must have an immigrant visa number available to become a permanent resident. For more
information on visa numbers, please see How Do I Get an Immigrant Visa Number?

If you were married to your spouse before you became a permanent resident, your spouse may be eligible to receive following-to-join benefits. This means that you would not have to submit a separate INS Form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative) for your spouse, and your
spouse would not have to wait any extra time for an immigrant visa number to become available. See Application Procedures for more information on following-to-join benefits.

How Do I Apply?
To find out how you can apply to have your spouse live in the United States permanently, please click here to see Application Procedures, which will help you identify what you and your spouse need to do.

Will My Spouse Get a Work Permit?
Applicants who are inside the United States and have filed INS Form I-485 (Application for Adjustment of Status to Permanent Resident) are eligible to apply for a work permit while their case is pending. Your spouse should use Form I-765 to apply for a work permit.

Your spouse does not need to apply for a work permit after admission as an "immigrant" with an immigrant visa or after adjustment to permanent resident status. As a lawful permanent resident, your spouse should receive an alien registration card that will prove that your
spouse has a right to live and work in the United States permanently. If your spouse is now outside the United States, your spouse will receive a passport stamp upon arrival in the United States. This stamp will prove that your spouse is allowed to work until an alien
registration card is created. Please see How Do I Get a Work Permit? for more information.

How Can I Check the Status of My Application?
To check the status of your application, please contact the INS office that received your application. You should be prepared to provide the INS staff with specific information about your application. Please click here for complete instructions on checking the status of your
application. Please click here for more information on INS field offices.

How Can I Appeal if My Petition is Denied?
If your visa petition for your spouse is denied, the denial letter will tell you how to appeal. Generally, you may appeal within 33 days of receiving the denial by mail. After your appeal form and a required fee are processed, the appeal will be referred to the Board of Immigration Appeals in Washington, D.C. For more information, please see, How Do I Appeal?.

Can Anyone Help Me?
If you need advice, you may contact the INS District Office near your home for a list of community-based, non-profit organizations that may be able to assist you in applying for an immigration benefit. Please see our INS field offices home page for more information on contacting INS offices.

Frequently Asked Questions [FAQs]

Thanks for the INfo Mrs Antisocial virge :) I appreciate it. Looks like I got a lot of paper work to go fill out. I am waiting on the translation of our marriage license. I should have done that there, but I forgot.
