Wow, can't believe he spurned Manchester United and the rest of europe for the MLS.

Way to go!:beer: (errr, make two milks, he's only 14. :D)

Adu will be a Project-40 player - an MLS program designed to accelerate the development of top young Americans. He will be eligible for January's draft.

The Dallas Burn hold the first overall pick in the draft, but they agreed to trade the selection to United as a stipulation for Adu's signing.

Good link.

Freddy Adu was born on June 2, 1989 in Ghana. His mother won an immigration lottery and came to America. Freddy's mother, father, and younger brother then settled in Washington D.C. A school friend invited Freddy to play soccer at recess; there Freddy's skills were witnessed and he was quickly made a member of a local soccer team. After helping his team dominate the league, Freddy then played at two youth soccer tournament in Italy, where he was named the MVP. Representatives from the premier Italian team, Inter Milan, offered Freddy's family $750,000 to sign him. However, Freddy's parents refused, saying he was too young. After refusing many more offers, the Adu family finally agreed to let Freddy join the U.S. Soccer Federation?s residency program. There, he is training with the top U-17 players in the country while finishing high school at an accelerated pace. In February 2003, Freddy received his US citizenship. When he turns 15, he will most likely join the MLS.

he'll be playing in europe before he turns 17... he'll get MILLIONS over there. MLS won't be able to keep up with it.

Inter Milan offered him 750k but his parents refused saying "He is too young".

This is a 6 year contract with DC.

He'll be expected to raise revenues in stadiums wherever he goes but if he doesn't boost the league, a european team will probably buyout his contract for a hefty price.

He made a mistake and hopefully it won't cost him dearly. Euro has good soccer academies and his talents would only flourish over there.
