I've been using Pacbell (now AT&T) DSL for over 10 years and have the original DSL modem they gave me, an Alcatel 1000. I figure to switch now to Sonic.net Fusion service and I just talked to one of their technicians who tells me that with my Berkeley location ~6100 feet from the office, I will get significantly greater bandwidth with an ADSL2+ modem, maybe 10-15 mbps whereas I would probably not get more than 5.5 mbps when all's said and done with my Alcatel 1000. They'll sell me a ZTE831 for $53 shipped (maybe $4 more for tax), but he suggested I could buy my own ADSL2+ modem.
Am I just looking for an ADSL2+ modem, any one, or are some better than others? What kind of price is good for this? Suggestions? Thanks!
