I want to set up an adsl link for two '98 machines, currently running on a lan via a crossover cable.
From reading recent posts and searching, I figure the easiest way is to get an external modem and a switch.
I am looking at the nokia Ni500 for a starter.
My other alternative is to go for the Nokia M1122 which has a router and four port hub intergrated.
Will I need to run ICS with this setup?
What do you think???

Compare the cost (and features) of the Nokia M1122 to the cost (and features) of an external modem and a router (not a switch). The easiest way is to use the router to share the DSL - with a switch you'd have to run proxy software to share the connection, or purchase additional IPs from your ISP. With the router, you just wire it, configure it (about three or four fields to fill in), and forget about it. Easy, effective, nothing special required of either computer.

I'm not familiar with the integrated Nokia, but I'd think a separate modem/router would be a preferable solution... That way down the road if you need to switch modems/switch to cable/whatever, you don't have to ditch everything, just the modem piece.

VAGRANT,

Make sure your ISP supports whatever device you purchase. Too many times people have run out and bought the hardware only to find that it's not compatible with their provider's equipment.
