What do i look at for a cheap ADSL modem?

Is there a good review site or a decent tech site? I have seen a few on google, but nothing that i would call the 'modem mecca'

cheers

First I would check with the dsl service you want to get. Most won't let you use your own stuff. At least none in my area will.

Thanks

My ISP allows us to use our own modems. The speeds is limited to around ~16k, which sux but is all i can get in NZ flatrate

Hey damocles, I'm on paradise net with a Nokia M1122 router, very nice but not cheap(got mine for 250 at an auction). I know dick stif, erm, smith sells some cheap(ish) nokia internals.

Heh, Dick Smith

NOOOOOOO!!

I can get this for $330 NZ

Nokia NI500 Full rate ethernet router with built-in ADSL modem

Is it ok?

The NI500 looks alright to me, and it has to be a bonus to have it external, I have 5 computers hooked up to my M1122 (with the help of an extra hub). They are a piece of cake to set up and 330 looks like a good price, I say go for it.

edit - oh yeah, do you know how many RJ45's it has at the back? If you want to hook up multiple PC's you better check that it can handle it. My one does DHCP and everything so I don't have to worry about it. Maybe if it only has one port you could just make a crossover and plug it into a hub if needed (?).
