ADSL Installation

Two part question here:

1) I want to install a new phone jack in the room that has the computer right now. There currently is no phone jack, but there is a cable jack. I want to switch from cable Internet to ADSL, so I'm planning on cutting a hole in the wall and splitting the jack on the other side of the wall through to the new room. Is there anything I need to be careful of when doing this so I can ensure I've got a fast line?

2) The reason for all of this is because I live in an apartment/condo and the cable line gets split so many times before it gets to my computer that I'm dropping packets all over the place. The cable co. knows this but say there's nothing they can do about it, they've got it turned up as much as they can in the cable room. So, am I going to run into this same problem with ADSL -- surely the phone line splits even more than the cable lines. If it's your best guess that's ok... just wondering if I'm wasting my time here.

You could try finding where your line enters the complex, and then see if you can get a splitter added there.. Sometimes they will do this for homes.

Jack wiring is pretty foolproof. I've never had any problems with speed or connectivity on short runs split off another jack for DSL installs...

Just be careful not to be holding a pair when the phone rings!!!! ZZZZAP!
