ADSL - connection gone nuts

My ADSL-conn. has been working fine until this week. It randomly disconnects after 3-7 hours and doesn't let met to reconnect for hours. The company couldn't help. My modem seems all right. Has anybody encountered this problem?
I have downloads going on or I surf, so the conn. is very active when it works.

if you're using xp, have you tried unchecking "allow the computer to turn off this device" in device manager>usb controllers>usb root hub>properties>power management?

Have you asked your ISP if they're having difficulties? I've had a couple outages with mine last several hours or more. What's the status of your DSL router/modem during these outages? Just some thoughts.

My modem is either on or off, but mostly on. When it's left on, it can reconnect after some hours. When it's turned off, it's the same. Could perhaps some WinXp setting be responsible?

I don't know if this would help you or not, but i had a similar problem with my cable connection. Every so often, the connection would die, and the phone would too. The cable internet and the digital telephone run off the same fiber optic line. I kept telling tech support there was a problem, but they said there was none, everything looked fine. Finally i got a tech to come out and when he did, he found that a bad telephone ringer outside of our house had gone bad, and replace it. All my problems went away.

Long story short, see if a tech will come out and checkout your wires.
